The new FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 tech from AMD is here to demand more performance from your GPUs

AMD debuted its FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 technology at the Game Developer Conference 2022. Although the footage from the GDC event will be released today, AMD has already updated its dedicated website with some new and fascinating information.

FSR 2.0, like any other advanced temporal-based solution, will be more demanding on graphics cards, according to the business. This implies it will need more processing power than the spatial FSR 1.0 upscaling technique, but AMD believes that gamers will benefit from greater framerates even on low-performance or older GPUs.

AMD cites NVIDIA DLSS 2.0 in their blog post, which is interesting. According to the business, DLSS-enabled game integration will be the quickest, requiring less than three days. Only games with decoupled display/render resolutions or motion vectors will take weeks to enable FSR 2.0.

AMD is sharing samples of FSR in two scenes. Each PNG file is 20MB in size and 4K in resolution:

Scene 1 – Native (as above)
Scene 1 – Quality (as above)
Scene 1 – Balanced
Scene 1 – Performance
Scene 2 – Native

AMD FSR2 will be available to all developers next quarter under an open source licence. AMD’s GPUOpen website will then give samples, APIs, and plugins.
