The last date to submit applications for the selector’s post has passed. As per reports, the board has already received over 80 applications for the vacancy of five selectors. The board will be inspecting the applications and will announce the new selection committee in December. Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, a former Indian cricket is not likely to get a nod.
He was one of the favourites of the BCCI but the board is reluctant to appoint two selectors from the same zone in senior and junior committees. Former Tamil Nadu cricketer Sharath Sridharan is serving as the chairman of the junior selection committee.
Sivaramakrishnan was the frontrunner last time, He was backed by N Srinivasan. However, Chetan Sharma got the role with support from BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. Roger Binny is the new President and he could curve the rules.
November 28, 18:00 IST was the deadline for the eligible candidates to apply for these positions. The new committee will be in the office by mid-December. Chetan Sharma, Sunil Joshi, Debashish Mohanty, and Harvinder Singh are on the committee before the new members are allowed. The first major task for the committee members will be to select a squad for the Australia series.
If Ajit Agarkar applies for the role, he will be elected as the chairman since India wants someone with T20 experience. His competition will be with Salil Ankola. He has a high chance of selling the spot if he gets the backing from Ashish Shelarwho is a cricket administrator.
Choosing the selection committee is going to be the main responsibility of the Cricket Advisory Committee. The board will have a meet-up before the Indian team boards fight for Dhaka, Bangladesh on December 1. A lot of clarity will be in the meeting.
