The game was perhaps the best of all the four quarter finals, alongside the epic battle between Spain and Germany. The Netherlands began their comeback through a goal from Stefan de Vrij, with the defender launching a bullet header to level things up.
Turkey’s right-back Mert Muldur turned the ball into his own net with just over ten minutes to go, in a massive blow to their hopes of a comeback. A frantic end to the game followed, with Bart Verbuggen called into making a number of important saves.
Turkey’s efforts in front of goal went off the mark time and time again, and in the end, they just weren’t able to get back on level terms again.
