Anime fans have been burned by live-action adaptations before, so this news comes with both hype and caution. Still, it’s a big moment. *Naruto*, one of the most beloved shonen series ever, is officially headed to the big screen in a feature-length live-action film.

## Who Is Behind the Camera?

Cretton, who directed *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, will direct, write and produce. This is his next directorial project after that film. He’s also a self-described longtime fan. He has said that beneath the big action, *Naruto* is a story full of heart, humour and humanity, where unlikely heroes do extraordinary things.

## Who’s In the Cast So Far?

Casting is still early. Charles Melton is reportedly the only confirmed cast member and is expected to play Kakashi Hatake, Naruto’s team leader and mentor. The roles of Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura haven’t been announced, so fan-casting debates can carry on for now.

## Why This Story Still Connects

Created by Masashi Kishimoto, [*Naruto*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naruto) follows Naruto Uzumaki, a mischievous orphan and aspiring ninja. He dreams of earning his peers’ respect and becoming Hokage, the strongest leader of the Hidden Leaf Village, while a demon fox named Kurama lives inside him. That underdog-to-leader arc is a big reason the story has lasted.

## A Franchise That Keeps Growing

The manga is divided into two parts, following Naruto from his pre-teen years into adolescence. It spawned the original *Naruto* anime and *Naruto: Shippuden*, plus theatrical films such as *The Last: Naruto the Movie*. The next generation got its own series in *Boruto: Naruto Next Generations*. Kishimoto has also returned with a new manga, *Naruto: Shadow Rising*, reportedly set between *Shippuden* and *Boruto*.

## What Fans Should Watch For?

Production begins in spring 2027, so a release is still some way off. Keep an eye on three things: casting for the core team, the film’s story scope, and the final release date. None of these has been announced yet.
