The Phase 5 of MCU has dropped a brand-new trailer of ‘The Marvels‘. This is definitely one of the most-awaited MCU shows on Disney+. Previously the film was set to hit on 28th July 2023, but now it has been delayed to November 2023. In the last teaser, we had seen the three powerful women respectively carol, Monica, and Kamala. The three have been described as higher, further, and faster. The Marvels has officially confirmed the release date to fly high and hit the theatres for Marvel lovers.
In this new film, we will see the return of Brie Larson going to appear in the role of Captain Marvel or Carol Danvers. She has set to collaborate with Teyonah Parris who was introduced for the first time as an adult Monica Rambeau in Marvel Studios like ‘Wandavision’ with Iman Vellani who previously appeared as Ms. Marvel in the Disney+ show with the same name.
The Marvels: Plot
The story of the MCU follows Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and takes revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe,” it reads.
“When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now SABER astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau.
“Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”
The Marvels is directed by Nia DaCosta and also brings back Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Marvel has not yet released a trailer for the movie.
MCU Phase 5 kicks off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is in theatres now. It will be followed up with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in May and then Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts in 2024.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently talked about the plans for MCU Phase 5. He said, “I would say in very generalized terms, as you see in Quantumania, it’s about setting up the big overarching thread that will go through the next phases,”.
In other Marvel news, the company has confirmed that it will slow down and space out Marvel TV shows to help give each more of a chance to shine. However, The Marvels will hit Disney+ on 10th November 2023.
The Marvels: Cast
We already knew that Brie Larson would be back as Carol Danvers and at the Disney Investor Day in December 2020, it was confirmed that she’ll have some exciting company.
Having debuted the role in WandaVision, Teyonah Parris will appear as the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, while the sequel will also feature Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, who made her debut in the Disney+ series of the same name.
Vellani revealed that she actually only found out about her role in The Marvels just before it was announced, during a night shoot the day before.
The title might refer to Carol and Kamala like the two Captain Marvels, but the events of WandaVision unlocked Monica gain superpowers. In the comics, Monica became Captain Marvel before Carol, so there could be another Captain Marvel in town.
While talking about WandaVision, the show has confirmed the sad news that Maria Rambeau died during the five years that Monica had been dusted by the Snap. This seemingly rules out a return for Lashana Lynch in the sequel.
However, Lynch isn’t totally ruling out a surprise return in the sequel. “Weirder things have happened in the franchise. I had a wonderful time on the first one and it would be great to have a wonderful time on another one,” she said in August 2021.
Lynch has since popped up again in the MCU as Earth-838’s Maria Rambeau who is Captain Marvel in that universe in Doctor Strange 2. Here’s hoping that paves the way for her to return in some form in the sequel.
It’s clear that Monica and Carol have some issues to work through though, so maybe they’ll be explored in flashbacks which could see Lynch reprise her role. The main villain will be played by Zawe Ashton, but it’s unclear who she’s playing at the moment. With potentially three Captain Marvels to take on, she better be powerful or she won’t last long.
Parasite’s Park Seo-Joon is also making his MCU debut in the sequel, while a deleted Instagram post revealed that Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur will be back as Kamala’s brother Aamir, mother Muneeba, and father Yusuf, respectively.
The first movie passed without any major casualties beyond Starforce member Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan), so she’s about the only character we can say for sure that won’t be back.
Samuel L Jackson appeared to confirm his return as Nick Fury in August 2021 and hopefully, we get to see him reunite with Goose, with the trailer confirming that everybody’s favorite Flerken is back.
The Marvels: Release Date
The Marvels is going to hit cinemas on 10th November 2023 on Disney+.
