Manchester United was rocked by a Covid-19 outbreak on Sunday, which caused them to miss training. A limited number of players and staff returned positive lateral flow tests on Sunday morning after playing on Saturday and beating Norwich 1-0 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty.

Positive Covid-19

Those who tested positive for the illness were sent home before training began, according to The Athletic. The group that traveled to Carrow Road is thought to have tested negative, and the Premier League has been informed of the situation.

Spurs have had to deal with a similar epidemic, with games against Rennes and Brighton both being postponed, and it’s unclear whether their match against Leicester on Thursday will go ahead.

It remains to be seen whether United will be able to travel to Brentford on Tuesday. In recent weeks, there have been more Covid-19 outbreaks, with the development of the novel omicron form leading to an increase in cases across the United Kingdom.

Virus Spreads before the Match

West Bromwich Albion had four players test positive for the virus ahead of their Championship match against Reading on Saturday, while Queens Park Rangers’ match against Sheffield United on Monday has been postponed due to an outbreak at the west London club. The Premier League makes postponing decisions on a case-by-case basis, while UEFA took its time before cancelling Spurs’ Europa League match against Rennes.

The United Kingdom has reported 1,239 new confirmed cases of the omicron strain, the largest daily increase and nearly double the previous high set on Saturday. The novel variant has now been identified in 3,137 people.

The UK government has proposed new Plan B measures, which include facial coverings being required in most indoor public places, people working from home wherever possible, and NHS Covid Passes being required to enter specific locations.
