The Tamil film industry needed a win badly in 2026, and **Thaai Kizhavi** is delivering exactly that. Starring veteran actress **Radhikaa Sarathkumar**, the film recorded a remarkable **100% jump on Saturday**, collecting approximately **Rs 6 crore** on Day 2 — nearly double its Rs 3 crore opening day — bringing the two-day India gross to an impressive **Rs 9 crore**.

Sunday advance bookings are already looking stronger, with a full opening weekend in the **Rs 15–17 crore range** very much on the table.

## Why This Film’s Success Is Extra Special

Let’s put this in context. Tamil Nadu saw its most lucrative release window — **Pongal 2026** — go largely to waste due to the delay of *Jana Nayagan*. It was a rough start to the year for Kollywood.

Then came *With Love*, which performed decently. But **Thaai Kizhavi** looks set to become the **first confirmed HIT of Tamil cinema in 2026** — and it stars a 60+ year old actress playing a ruthless village moneylender with no glamour, no item numbers, and no mass hero walking in to save the day. That’s something worth celebrating.

The story of **Pavunuthayi**, an arrogant matriarch whose estranged sons return home after a shocking incident, has clearly resonated deeply with family audiences. The 90% jump in Tamil Nadu alone — from Rs 2.75 crore on Friday to Rs 5.25 crore on Saturday — signals outstanding word-of-mouth.

According to [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radhika_Sarathkumar), Radhikaa Sarathkumar is one of Tamil cinema’s most celebrated actresses with a career spanning over four decades — and this film might just be her finest commercial moment in years.
