With several esteemed players to grace the pitch for Indian cricket, so many names fall under discussion when it comes to Test cricket. In this article we look at the top 5 Indian players who scored the most Test centuries for their nation.

Top 5 Indian cricket players with the most Test hundreds of all time

5) Virender Sehwag – 23

Sehwag was active between the years 2001 and 2013. He has 103 matches under his belt, during which he appeared in 178 innings. His highest innings score is 319, and his total run tally goes up to 8503. In domestic cricket matches in India, he represented Delhi and Haryana. His whole playing career was spent as an aggressive opening batter.

4) Virat Kohli – 27

Started from the year 2011, the former Indian skipper has played 102 matches, in 10 out of which he was not out. Over 178 innings, the RCB batsman has scored 27 centuries and 28 half-centuries.

Kohli has a batting average of 49.53. He is frequently considered as one of the finest batters of his time, and some experts rank him among the top limited-overs players ever. Kohli is one of the most successful Indian Test captains, having won 40 of his 68 games.

3) Sunil Gavaskar – 34

Gavaskar, who served the national team from 1971-1987, is third on the list with 34 Test centuries during his tenure. In 125 matches and 214 innings, he managed to score 10,122 runs in this format. With a highest innings score of 236 runs and an average of 51.12, he is one of the most successful Indian batters.

With a particularly high average of 65.45 against the West Indies, whose four-pronged fast bowling assault was regarded as the most ruthless in Test history, Gavaskar was universally recognized for his technique against fast bowling.

2) Rahul Dravid – 36

Serving the Indian cricket team from 1996-2012, the former skipper is second on the list with 36 Test centuries to his name. In 163 matches and 284 innings, he scored 13,265 runs, and was not out on 32 occasions. Also serving as the head coach of the national team currently, Dravid has a batting average of 52.63, and has 63 half-centuries to his name.

1) Sachin Tendulkar – 51

Tendulkar was active during the span of 1989 to 2013. In 200 matches and 329 innings, he scored 15,921 runs. Regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the game, he has the most Test centuries (51) as well as the most half-centuries (68) for India.
