TATA Motors will launch Tiago EV – Which could start at Rs.10 lakh to make it the most affordable passenger EV in the Indian market

The Indian automobile giant has recently confirmed on world EV day that they will be launching a more affordable Tata Tiago EV, based on the same Tiago ICE Petrol hatchback. This is no surprise that TATA has the potential of launching multiple Electric cars but the urgency has been pretty low because of the high demand for Tigor and Nexon EVs.

However, as we see new EVs getting announced like the new Mercedes AMG EQ and Mahindra XUV400, they had to announce a new one at the World EV Day yesterday. So, Shailesh Chandra from Tata Motors made an announcement that they will be launching the new Tiago EV, presumably the same one which they showcased previously.

As this CNBC-TV18 tweet tells you, Tata Motors plans to increase its production as the EV momentum builds in India in the last few years now. The automobile giant is targetting to sell around 50k EVs in FY23 and the confirmation comes that more affordable EVs will be brought to the market by them.

The interesting thing though is that the upcoming Tiago EV could be priced below the current Tigor EV which starts at Rs.12.5 lakhs and that could presumably mean that this upcoming electric hatchback could start at Rs.10 lakhs or even less. Now, this could really be revolutionary for buyers who have always wanted an EV but aren’t looking to burn their pockets.

Obviously, these kinds of hatchbacks sell pretty quickly, and producing them in bulk is a major challenge for automakers like Tata Motors. However, the company is working out to utilize the recently purchased Ford’s Sanand plant and is also trying to get an additional capacity of 3 lakh units manufactured from this plant.

Well, are you excited about the new era of EVs in India? Do let us know your thoughts on this upcoming Tiago EV and its potential in our country…🙌😁
