*If you’ve been sitting on the fence about buying a Tata car or SUV, the fence just got more expensive to sit on after June 30.*

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (TMPV) has announced a price hike across its passenger vehicle portfolio, including both ICE and electric vehicles. The revised prices will come into effect from July 1, 2026, with the increase being up to 1.5%, depending on the model and variant.

This is not a minor revision. It applies to every car Tata currently sells in India — from the entry-level Tiago to the flagship Sierra EV — and it arrives at a moment when Tata has more skin in the game than ever before, with a product lineup that now spans 13 models across ICE and electric platforms.

If you’re considering a purchase, you have until **June 30** to lock in current prices.

## Why Is Tata Hiking Prices Now?

The company stated that this price revision is necessary to partially offset the rising input costs and ongoing inflationary pressures. Despite TMPV absorbing a significant portion of these cost increases, a portion of the impact will be passed on to customers through this adjustment.

This is the standard language of an automotive price revision — but the context behind it matters for buyers. Raw material costs, particularly steel and aluminium, have remained elevated through 2026. Battery material costs for EVs — while declining on a long-term trajectory — have also seen short-term pressure from global supply chain dynamics.

Crucially, this is the second price hike taken by India’s third-largest carmaker in 2026. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles had already increased prices across its ICE passenger vehicle portfolio by 0.5% from April 1, 2026. The April hike covered only ICE models; the July hike covers both ICE and EV — a broader sweep that signals the cost pressure has widened across Tata’s entire production chain.

The pattern is industry-wide, not Tata-specific. Maruti Suzuki also raised prices by up to ₹30,000 across its model range effective June 2026, citing persistent escalation in input costs and a challenging cost environment showing little sign of easing.

## What 1.5% Actually Means in Rupees

The percentage sounds modest. On an actual price tag, it adds up faster than you’d expect.

| Model | Approx. Current Starting Price | Estimated Increase (1.5%) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Tiago** | ₹6.00 lakh | ~₹9,000 |
| **Punch** | ₹6.50 lakh | ~₹9,750 |
| **Nexon** | ₹8.10 lakh | ~₹12,150 |
| **Altroz** | ₹6.90 lakh | ~₹10,350 |
| **Curvv** | ₹10.00 lakh | ~₹15,000 |
| **Harrier** | ₹15.50 lakh | ~₹23,250 |
| **Safari** | ₹16.00 lakh | ~₹24,000 |
| **Nexon EV** | ₹13.50 lakh | ~₹20,250 |
| **Punch EV** | ₹10.00 lakh | ~₹15,000 |
| **Harrier EV** | ₹21.90 lakh | ~₹32,850 |

*Prices are approximate base variant figures. Actual increases will vary by variant and will be confirmed by Tata Motors closer to July 1.*

On a premium variant of the Harrier or Safari — which can cross ₹25 lakh — a 1.5% hike translates to ₹37,500 or more. That is not insignificant.

## The New Product Context: A Busy 2026 for Tata

The price hike arrives against the backdrop of Tata’s most aggressive product rollout in years. Since the beginning of 2026, the company has launched several new and updated products including Sierra ICE, Harrier Petrol, Safari Petrol, Punch facelift, Punch EV facelift, Tiago facelift and Tiago EV facelift. Tata is also preparing for the debut of Sierra EV later this month, further strengthening its presence in India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle market.

The Sierra EV launch — expected before the end of June — is particularly notable. It will be the first electric variant of Tata’s reimagined Sierra nameplate, and its pricing will be announced under the current price regime. If you’re considering the Sierra EV, buying before July 1 locks in whatever launch pricing Tata sets this month.

## Should You Buy Before July 1?

The honest answer depends on your situation — but the arithmetic is clear.

**If you’re close to a purchase decision:** Booking before June 30 locks in current prices. Most Tata dealerships allow bookings with a refundable deposit, and delivery can follow after July 1 at the booked price. Confirm the exact policy with your dealer.

**If you’re early in the consideration process:** A 1.5% hike is meaningful but not dramatic enough to rush a decision you’re not ready to make. The vehicle you buy at ₹12,150 more in July will serve you for 7–10 years — don’t compromise on the right model for the right need to save a relatively modest sum.

**If you’re evaluating Tata EVs specifically:** The Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Curvv EV are all affected. With the government’s FAME subsidies and state EV incentives potentially changing through the year, getting the current combination of price, subsidy, and variant is worth accelerating if you were already leaning toward electric.
