Tata Group is nearing a deal to purchase Apple’s Indian supplier facility. The facility might be purchased by August, and when it is, it will be the first time that a local business will begin assembling iPhones.
Tata Group deal details
Tata Group is in discussions to buy Wistron’s facility in Karnataka, which may be worth more than $600 million and employs more than 10,000 people.
Wistron Corp. is dedicating itself to selling $1.8 billion in iPhones by the fiscal year ending March 2024 and double the factory’s workforce the following year. According to the Bloomberg report, Tata Group will fulfill these responsibilities after taking control of the factory. The purchase of the Wistron Corp factory marks the end of the Taiwanese company’s iPhone production efforts in India.
It already manufactures iPhone chassis (the device’s metal backbone) at its facility in Tamil Nadu. According to its Chairman, N Chandrasekaran, the Tatas also encourage chip manufacturing aspirations.
The production of iPhones by an Indian firm may encourage other multinational corporations to explore manufacturing in India in order to minimize their dependency on China.
