Takumi Minamino is set to leave Liverpool, as a deal has been agreed with Monaco for a transfer. The forward has agreed a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 side and is sorting out the final details for the transfer.
Minamino made the move from RB Salzburg in 2020, and has made 55 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, scoring 14 times. But owing to inconsistencies in playing time, he is now set to move to a new club where he can get a better role.
Takumi Minamino to leave Liverpool this summer
The Japan international played for Southampton on a loan spell for the latter half of the 2020/21 season, before coming back to Liverpool. However, the loan spell did not lead to more opportunities for him despite the Reds playing the longest possible calendar.
“I’ve never had this much time as a player,” he added. “It was difficult to maintain the condition and connect with my feelings.
“Many of the games I played weren’t of interest to anyone,” he said.
Once the final details have been sorted, the medical assessment will have to be completed before Takumi Minamino can officially join Monaco.
The deal between the two clubs has been agreed for €15 million plus €3 million in add-ons. Liverpool have signed new players like Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez to help them for the new season, and things are looking very positive for them as a result despite the departures of Minamino and Sadio Mane.
