Taiwan Electronics giant Acer is worried about business in India due to India-China conflict

India currently is one of the main markets of many electronic brands including the Taiwan based electronic brand Acer. Obviously, the COVID-19 has affected every sector of business and now the India-China conflict is giving headache to the brand as it believes this could affect consumer sentiment throughout the Q3 2019.

Undoubtedly, the Anti-Chinese movement is on the rise in India, and more people than ever are seeking to go for all Indian products, and others except China. Also, there’s no denial of the fact that Chinese products are flooding in the Indian market and people have suddenly become choosy now to buy any Chinese manufactured goods or from any Chinese brand as well.

Thanks to Indian Govt’s new rules like the e-commerce giants like Flipkart and Amazon will be showing the country of origin of every product, helping customers to go for Indian products. The current e-commerce platforms are believed to comprise of as much as 70% Chinese products which is why steps are being taken by various regulatory bodies of India to decrease our Chinese dependency.

The Coronavirus pandemic has destroyed the consumer demand throughout the first half of the year in countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, leading Acer to concentrate on business clients, in accordance with the organization’s President of Pan Asia Pacific Operations, Andrew Hou.

Looking ahead, nations with a big population, like India and Indonesia, provide a significant level of uncertainty. Nevertheless, other Southeast Asian nations, like Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, are on the road to recovery, CNA quoted Hou as stating.

To make the matters the current clash in the borders between India and China could cast a shadow on consumers need in the first the Acer spokesperson said. He went on to add that as more and more consumers are working from home, so many of the government departments have opted to postpone spending.

Throughout the Q2 2020, Acer saw its performance in India dip by 10%, so Andrew How believes that this India-China conflict effect might be felt in business in the next quarter as well.
