Adidas Strikes Lucrative Long-Term Partnership with Real Madrid Star Brahim Diaz

Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz has made a significant switch in his sportswear allegiance, as he transitions from Nike, his longtime sponsor, to Adidas. The 24-year-old has secured a lucrative, enduring partnership with the renowned German sports brand, triumphing over rival contenders to secure his commitment. Having previously been associated with Nike throughout his career, this move marks a significant change for Diaz, who will now lace up in Adidas boots for his training sessions.

In contrast, Nike recently extended its association with Vinicius Junior until 2030, resolving prior issues between the brand and the player. However, they encountered a setback with Real defender Antonio Rudiger, who opted for Under Armour instead.

Diaz showcased his prowess on the field as Real’s lone goalscorer in the recent derby against Atletico Madrid, securing a crucial 1-1 draw for Carlo Ancelotti’s squad at the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite not being initially slated to start, an unexpected opportunity arose due to Vinicius Jr’s pre-match injury discomfort, which Diaz seized effectively.

With seven goals and three assists in 26 appearances across various competitions this season, Diaz maintains an impressive goal involvement rate of approximately one goal every 106.7 minutes. His consistent performance is bringing him closer to consideration for the Spanish national team, despite ongoing efforts from Morocco to sway his international allegiance. Nonetheless, Diaz remains steadfast in his preference to represent Spain.

Real Madrid Held to Draw by Atletico in Ongoing ‘Season of Survival’

Real Madrid’s fatigued players, their expressions twisted in frustration and disbelief, mirrored the sentiments of the fans filling the stands at the Santiago Bernabeu as they witnessed Marcos Llorente’s 93rd-minute equalizer for Atletico Madrid.

The events of the evening seemed to follow a pattern of misfortune, with the team’s rocky start setting the tone for its eventual conclusion. Prior to the La Liga kick-off on Sunday evening, the anticipation of the home supporters was dampened by a mishap with the tifo display, which failed to unfurl as planned, diminishing its impact.

Additionally, confusion arose with the starting lineup, exacerbated by Vinicius Junior’s last-minute withdrawal from the warm-up, despite being announced as a starter on the public address system. This unexpected turn of events led to Brahim Diaz being named as Vinicius Junior’s replacement, contrary to earlier reports that Joselu would fill the role.

It seemed as though fate had already cast a shadow over Real Madrid’s fortunes. With three points within their grasp, they had the opportunity to capitalize on Girona’s draw the previous day and secure a four-point lead at the summit of the table. Instead, they found themselves on the receiving end of their own trademark late-game drama, leaving them battered by a bitter dose of irony. In the words of Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak, “Normally, it’s Real Madrid who score in the last minutes.”

The equalizer from Atletico came moments before the referee signaled the end of the match, adding insult to injury. The goal was netted by Marcos Llorente, a product of Real Madrid’s La Fabrica youth academy, where he honed his skills from 2008 to 2016, amassing 39 appearances for the first team before departing for Diego Simeone’s side in 2019.

However, Atletico’s breakthrough could have arrived sooner, given the vulnerabilities evident in Madrid’s defensive setup. It was only a matter of time before an aerial threat materialized, ultimately leading to the decisive moment in the match.

Real Madrid’s Defensive Woes Deepened Ahead of Fourth Atletico Showdown

Heading into the fourth Atletico ‘derbi’ of the season, Real Madrid faced a defensive crisis with a makeshift backline. Alongside the long-term absences of Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, and David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger was sidelined due to a knock sustained against Getafe, and Aurelien Tchouameni was suspended following his fifth yellow card in the league season’s previous match, a 2-0 victory on Thursday.

Despite efforts from sources close to former Chelsea defender Rudiger, who remained anonymous to safeguard their position, to push him to play through the pain, the 30-year-old was clearly unfit on Sunday, unable even to run due to his injury. Coach Carlo Ancelotti, acknowledging Rudiger’s warrior mentality, opted not to risk exacerbating the situation.

With only one fit center-back, Nacho, available in the first-team squad and both potential reserve options, Alvaro Carrillo and Marvel, also injured, Madrid’s defensive resources were severely depleted. Even midfielder Tchouameni, drafted in as an emergency option, was unavailable.

Although Ancelotti had mentioned Dani Carvajal, Ferland Mendy, and Eduardo Camavinga as potential alternatives in his pre-match press conference on Saturday, the decision had already been made to pair Carvajal with Nacho by Friday. The coaching staff recognized the unlikelihood of Rudiger’s participation and had begun preparations accordingly.

The goalkeeping choice was also influenced by the situation in the medical room, leading to Andriy Lunin receiving another start. This marked the first occasion since the initiation of rotations between Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga that one of them had started three consecutive games.

The coaching staff believed that Arrizabalaga, on loan from Chelsea without an option to buy, suffered an injury just as he was hitting top form for the season, providing an opportunity for Lunin to step up. Despite occasional setbacks, they observed growth in Lunin’s performance, attributing it to his relief from the sporadic pressure of standing in for Thibaut Courtois and highlighting his perceived superiority over Arrizabalaga in dealing with aerial threats.

Atletico’s Aerial Assault Exposes Real Madrid’s Defensive Vulnerabilities in Stalemate

In their previous La Liga encounter in September and the Supercopa de Espana semi-final in January, Atletico had capitalized on early headed goals. Their strategy on Sunday was clear: exploit Real Madrid’s defensive vulnerabilities, particularly with Ancelotti’s backline comprising players of shorter stature, namely Lucas Vazquez, Carvajal, Nacho, and Ferland Mendy.

Atletico executed a barrage of 19 open-play crosses (compared to Madrid’s 10) and delivered eight corners (while Madrid managed only two). They attempted 27 aerial balls to Real Madrid’s 12, emphasizing their intent to exploit aerial superiority, culminating in Llorente’s decisive intervention in the dying moments of the match.

Despite the outcome, Ancelotti expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, asserting, “We deserved to win, we can’t fault ourselves for anything.” He acknowledged the team’s deficiency in aerial duels, attributing Atletico’s success to their proficiency in exploiting crosses.

To a significant extent, Ancelotti’s squad was hindered by the lack of reinforcements in the center-back position during the January transfer window. While acknowledging the need for defensive reinforcement in discussions with the board, he downplayed its significance in media interactions.

Instead of dwelling on the transfer market, the Italian tactician opted to focus on the imminent return of Rudiger from injury, the reinstatement of Tchouameni for the crucial La Liga clash against Girona, and expressed optimism regarding Camavinga’s injury, hoping it was minor despite his discomfort on leaving the pitch.

Real Madrid’s campaign has been characterized by a battle for survival. As the season progresses, the most pivotal phase lies ahead.

Real Madrid overtake Manchester City as the highest revenue earners for 22/23

Real Madrid have become the highest revenue generating club for the first time since 2017/18, beating Manchester City in terms of overall revenue generated for 22/23. The Spanish giants earned a total of €831 million, an increase of €118 million over the last year according to Deloitte.

The news comes in spite of City’s massive treble winning season, where they lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and finally won the Champions League title. They then completed the remainder of the trophy haul by winning the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

The completion of the Nuevo Bernabeu was one of the main reasons behind the jump in revenue. With an increase in capacity, the matchday revenue has gone up significantly for Los Merengues. Moreover, they had minimal transfer activity last year, with almost no new signings made in any window.

Real Madrid now have plans to rent out their stadium for several other events such as the NFL, and concerts. This will further boost their ability to generate revenue, away from the sporting side of things.

Behind Madrid and City are PSG, Barcelona and Manchester United, completing the top five. Paris have emerged into the top three for the first time, finishing ahead of Barcelona once again.

  • The aftermath of Real Madrid’s comeback against Almeria overshadowed by 3 VAR calls

The aftermath of Real Madrid’s comeback against Almeria overshadowed by 3 VAR calls

Real Madrid’s second half comeback against Almeria was overshadowed by VAR, and a game that had 14 minutes of extra time was rife with speculation about the calls made in the game. So much so that Almeria players told the press about the forces at play acting against them, suggesting that they simply could not win at the Bernabeu in spite of going two goals up.

Defender Edgar Gonzalez scored an impressive long-range goal from 25 yards out, showing how poor Real Madrid were in defence against the relegation battlers.

Real Madrid’s comeback against Almeria involves VAR drama

    Dani Carvajal Real Madrid
    Via X

Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez intervened thrice as the VAR official, first awarding Madrid a penalty correctly for a handball. And then ruling out Almeria’s goal for a foul on Jude Bellingham in the build-up. Perhaps the decision to award the foul was soft, with the nature of the contact involved. But since the contact was with his face, the referee decided it was unfair.

The third and final call however, was controversial as Vinicius Jr was being judged for handling the ball ahead of the equaliser.

The on-field referee observed a handball, but reviews made it impossible to determine whether it was actually so due to the camera angles.

As a result, even though Madrid took the points, they only did so by the skin of their teeth and a lot of luck involved. And a lot will be asked of the decisions made in the game even in the days to follow.

Jeremy De Leon to sign for Real Madrid Castilla: Only the 2nd ever Puerto Rican in their history

Jeremy De Leon is set to become the second ever Puerto Rican Real Madrid player, once he completes his transfer to Castilla. The 19-year-old will make the move from Castellon and chose Madrid over a number of other LaLiga clubs, who also showed interest in signing him.

He has agreed to a contract until June 2026 with Los Blancos and will play in the Segunda Division B. The winger will replace Peter Federico in the Castilla squad, who is expected to leave in the coming weeks.

The first-ever player to feature for Los Merengues was Eduardo Ordóñez, who played for the club between 1926 and 1927, almost a century ago. And now, De Leon will become only the second to have ever worn the famous white shirt.

Jeremy De Leon has been scouted as an extremely fast wide player, who can also outmuscle defenders. He has made 14 appearances for the team this season, registering one assist.

Castellon had offered him a new deal, and didn’t want to let him go. But, after De Leon rejected the offer, the club was forced to agree a deal with Real Madrid. The Castilla wants to achieve successive promotions for the first time in their history, which will see them play in the Segunda Division – the second tier of Spain.

Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium will reportedly host an NFL game in 2025, as part of the league’s expansion into Spain. Civitas Metropolitano, the home of their rivals, Atletico Madrid, was the other option. But in the end, Florentino Perez was able to convince the authorities to choose the Nuevo Bernabeu over their rivals.

The NFL’s plan is to have a week of festivities before the game in Spain. And the open space around the Metropolitano would have provided them with a great opportunity to do so without disrupting everyday life in the city.

But Perez was able to convince them that doing so around the Bernabeu, which is located in the middle of the city and around some of the busiest streets, would provide more exposure. He also suggested that fan parks could be opened up to generate awareness and excitement for the sport.

And barring a dispute over the details of the deal, it seems like Real Madrid’s stadium is where the NFL will launch its Spanish expansion.

The renovation of the Bernabeu would have allowed the ground to host a variety of other fixtures. And we are finally starting to see how things will pan out in the future, after the massive investment of time and resources into making the stadium the best that it can be.

How can Alphonso Davies Help and Improve Real Madrid?

Real Madrid is gearing up for an eventful summer transfer window, with the potential arrival of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain grabbing headlines as his contract nears its end. Yet, the excitement doesn’t end there, as strong connections between Los Blancos and Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies have surfaced in recent months. Real Madrid envisions Davies as the future cornerstone in the left-back position, starting in the upcoming season.

The likelihood of a summer move for Davies hinges on his contract situation with Bayern Munich. Set to expire in 2025, if he doesn’t renew before the season concludes, Bayern may opt to place him on the market to avoid losing him for free the following year. Real Madrid is well aware of this possibility and hopes for Davies to become available, especially at a reduced cost.

Should Davies make the move, Real Madrid is anticipated to part ways with one of its current left-backs, Ferland Mendy or Fran Garcia. While Mendy has delivered commendable performances this season, reports suggest he is the frontrunner for a potential departure. However, there’s speculation that Garcia could be sold instead, considering his challenges in adapting since returning from Rayo Vallecano last summer.

The decision to prioritize Mendy’s departure aligns with several factors. Firstly, his sale is expected to generate more funds, a crucial consideration given financial fair play regulations. Additionally, Mendy, at 28, maybe less content with a bench role compared to Garcia, who has shown a level of satisfaction in his recent performances.

Real Madrid is mindful of Mendy’s age, recognizing that his market value is likely to decline soon. This, coupled with President Florentino Perez’s track record of adeptly selling players at the right time, further supports the decision to favour Mendy’s potential departure over Garcia’s.

While the prospect of Davies joining Real Madrid this summer remains uncertain, the club may retain Mendy and Garcia for continuity, maintaining a setup similar to the current campaign, which has proven successful in light of Los Blancos’ recent form.

How Can Alphonso Davies Help and Improve Real Madrid

Alphonso Davies could serve as a significant upgrade for Real Madrid, providing various attributes that can positively impact the team’s dynamics.

    • One key benefit would be the potential for Eduardo Camavinga to return to a midfield role, adding depth and dynamism to the team’s central positions.
    • Speed and Finesse: Davies brings exceptional speed and finesse to his game, offering a dynamic and quick presence on the field. His ability to accelerate and maneuver swiftly could inject a new level of pace into Real Madrid’s gameplay, creating opportunities for rapid counterattacks and defensive transitions.
    • Possession Skills: Unlike simply passing the ball to a more talented teammate, Davies has shown an aptitude for maintaining possession after regaining the ball. This skill can be crucial in controlling the tempo of the game and sustaining pressure on opponents, aligning well with Real Madrid’s emphasis on possession-based football.

    • Attacking Prowess: Davies, known for his fantastic attacking capabilities, could provide an added dimension to Real Madrid’s left flank. His proficiency in going forward could contribute to the team’s offensive strategies, delivering crosses, and even contributing to goal-scoring opportunities. This attacking threat from the left-back position could diversify Real Madrid’s options in the final third.
    • Versatility as a Left-Back: With a natural fit as a left-back, Davies aligns with Real Madrid’s positional requirements. His defensive capabilities, combined with his speed and attacking prowess, make him a well-rounded option for the left-back position. This versatility could add depth to the squad and offer tactical flexibility for the coach.

Alphonso Davies not only addresses specific positional needs but also brings a unique set of skills and qualities that align with Real Madrid’s style of play. His speed, finesse, possession skills, and combination play with Vinicius Jr. on the left flank could create havoc for any team in the world and his attacking prowess could collectively contribute to the team’s success and potentially allow for tactical adjustments that benefit the overall balance of the squad.

    • Flank Flexibility: Davies’ capability to operate on both flanks provides the manager with increased flexibility in team formation and tactics. Depending on the match situation, he can seamlessly switch between left-back and right-wing roles, offering a tactical advantage by keeping opponents guessing and adapting to specific challenges during a game.
    • Attacking Options: Deploying Davies as a right winger taps into his attacking prowess from a different angle. His speed, dribbling skills, and crossing ability can be utilized to create goal-scoring opportunities from the right side, adding an extra dimension to Real Madrid’s attacking strategies. This flexibility allows the team to exploit defensive weaknesses on either flank.
    • Defensive Cover: When playing as a right winger, Davies’ defensive instincts developed as a left-back can be an asset. His ability to track back, win possession, and contribute defensively provides a well-rounded skill set. This defensive cover can be crucial in moments when Real Madrid needs to consolidate and protect a lead.
    • Interchangeability: Davies’ adaptability enhances the overall interchangeability of Real Madrid’s attacking players. His movement between the left and right sides can create confusion for opposing defenders and contribute to a fluid attacking system where players can rotate positions, making it challenging for the opposition to predict and counter Real Madrid’s offensive moves.

Real Madrid win Supercopa de Espana 2024 against Barcelona with Vinicius scoring hat-trick

Real Madrid lifted the Supercopa de Espana for the second straight season, defeating Barcelona 4-1 in the finals at Al Awwal Stadium in Saudi Arabia. Vinicius Jr was the star of the night, scoring a first half hat-trick to blow their arch rivals out of the competition within the first 35 minutes. The Brazilian scored a quickfire brace with goals in the 7th and 10th minute, and then converted a penalty to complete his hat-trick.

Barcelona were able to pull one back after a thunderous strike from Robert Lewandowski at the edge of the penalty area. But it just wasn’t enough to turn things around after a sub-par opening performance from the team.

Carlo Ancelotti has now matched Zinedine Zidane, who won 11 trophies during his time in charge of Real Madrid. The Italian recently extended his contract with Los Blancos until 2026, and marked it in the best way possible.

Rodrygo ended all hopes of a comeback in the second half, making it 4-1 in his team’s favour to guide them to a statement win. Ronald Araujo was later sent off, after a second yellow card for fouling Vinicius Jr again.

The Uruguayan has kept Vinicius quiet on several occasions in El Clasico, but Vini was a man possessed in the final. And he did remarkably well to trouble Araujo throughout the night and end up on the winning side.

Real Madrid were blazing fast on the counter attack, which was the main concern for Barcelona, who played a high line. And after a crushing defeat in Saudi Arabia, they will hope to turn things around in LaLiga and the Copa del Rey.
