Mayank Agarwal (c), Arshdeep Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Rahul Chahar, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Ishan Porel, Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith, Sandeep Sharma, Raj Bawa, Rishi Dhawan, Prerak Mankad, Vaibhav Arora, Writtick Chatterjee, Baltej Dhanda, Ansh Patel, Nathan Ellis, Atharva Taide, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Benny Howell.

    Strength

Punjab has strong openers, with Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow. The team’s Skipper Mayank Agarwal is at No.3 making the top order of the team very strong. Dhawan and Bairstow have proved their capabilities in the previous IPL seasons. Punjab Kings has one of the strongest opening pairs in the league. The top 3 batters of Punjab Kings is the biggest strength that this franchise has.

    Weakness

Punjab doesn’t really have a reliable finisher. the team has lost several matches just because of them not having a good finisher. If a player fills that gap, they will have a strong chance to qualify for the playoffs.

Though the franchise has retained Arshdeep and bought Rabada and Chahar. they don’t have enough options. If Chahar fails to deliver, the Kings will be in a mess. Death bowling has always been the concern of PBKS and probably in this season too, the team will have trouble in this department.

RCB, KKR, and PBKS join cryptocurrency backed engagement platform Socios

Since the suspension of the IPL 2021, all the franchises have been in a dilemma of thinning away money, TV rights and sponsorship deals. With no significant source in order to generate revenue, teams’ owners have been looking for different alternatives. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings have established ties with Socios.

It is a platform that boosts revenue by elevating fan engagement through cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. Socios is developed by Chillz, which is a huge blockchain fintech provider for sports & entertainment. It has ties with big European clubs like PSG, Barcelona, Juventus. In order to participate in exclusive activities organised by the club, fans need to buy Chillz token through a cryptocurrency exchange. Teams can facilitate fan token offerings on Socios. By acquiring Chillz tokens, fans can engage in exclusive activities such as chat forums, competitions, polls, and VIP rewards organised by their favourite clubs.

The use of fan tokens to engage fans is rising in popularity among sports fans. USD 120 million is reported to be spent on these tokens in 2021 so far. Since the IPL has been suspended and offers no solid guarantee of being resumed, teams were required to look for alternate sources in order to generate revenue.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore said, “We were keen to look at new ways of enhancing and optimizing how we engage with our fans, and Socios.com seemed like the right fit. Socios.com has already proven what a powerful tool it can be for fan engagement with some of the biggest sporting organisations in the world.”

IPL’s streaming partner, Disney+ Hotstar, has previously had advertisements from two extremely well-known Indian cryptocurrency platforms in WazirX and Coinbase. Cryptocurrency platforms are a growing industry in India, and the teams associated have looked into their best financial interests by the association here.

IPL 2021: KL Rahul to be operated for appendicitis, side-lined for 10 days

Punjab Kings will encounter the loss of their skipper, KL Rahul, against Delhi Capitals along with a few upcoming matches in the run, as he has been reported to be hospitalised after severe abdominal discomfort.

With reports suggesting that he is to be operated on at the Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai on Sunday night, the squad and team staff expect his return date to arrive after 10 days. It has also been brought to light that posterior to his surgery, KL Rahul will be rehabilitated in a bio bubble to prevent the risks amidst the pandemic.

Punjab Kings’ Twitter account tweeted an official statement regarding the diagnosis and the admission. Rahul experienced severe abdomen pain on Saturday night and was immediately attended to. However, the medication he received first hand did not yield positive results. KL Rahul thus had to be taken to the emergency room for tests, which revealed that he was suffering from acute appendicitis. It is deemed to be dealt with surgically, and for safety concerns, he was transferred to the hospital with immediate effect.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has been an invaluable asset to his team in the IPL this season. Being Punjab’s number 1 batsman, KL Rahul is at the summit of the Orange Cap Leader board with 331 runs after 7 matches played. The skipper boasts an impressive strike rate of 137 with a 66.6 average.

With him being off the pitch, two crucial positions in captain and wicketkeeper became vacant. Being an essential part of the team alongside national team representation has earned Ahmedabad’s Mayank Agarwal the skipper role in Rahul’s absence. Meanwhile, Prabhsimran Singh will put on the wicketkeeping gloves for the time being.

Having never won the IPL, losing a player who makes up one of the best opening pairs in the competition with Agarwal comes off as a hefty blow for Punjab Kings, who have won just three games of seven before facing Delhi Capitals on Sunday.

KKR finally ends their losing streak against PBKS

KKR ends their 4-match losing streak by beating Punjab Kings by 5 wickets.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bowl first. KKR bowlers did a great job restricting PBKS by just 123 runs. Only Mayank Agarwal [31 of 34] and Chris Jordan [30 of 18] were the stand-out performers of the team. KKR bowler Prasidh Krishna took 3 wickets in his 4 overs.

While chasing, KKR lost both the openers very soon. But later Rahul Tripathi [41 of 32] and Eoin Morgan [47 of 40] did an excellent job to chase down the total.

After the match, KKR skipper Eoin Morgan said, “Wins haven’t been easy to come by. Have worked incredibly hard. Today, along with a bit of luck, the performance was very impressive, particularly with the ball up front. When the wicket’s like that – from the 12th over of our innings, the ball was sliding on.”

“Hopefully today can kick-start something for us. Certainly think it’s challenging and it does have to be managed for players, coaching staff.”- he added.

PBKS captain KL Rahul said, “It is never nice to be on the losing side. Don’t know what to say. We should have adapted better. We could have applied a lot more with the bat. Expect the boys to be smarter. Some soft dismissals have cost us the game. It was a bit two-paced. Kept a little up-down. Was tough to assess what are the high-risk shots here. It is expected of good teams to adapt quicker. We need to keep our heads higher and keep trying. Bishnoi’s catch was stunning.”

Eoin Morgan was rewarded the Man of the Match award.
