  • NVIDIA Explores Standalone Release: Arm-Based Grace CPU for Servers

NVIDIA Explores Standalone Release: Arm-Based Grace CPU for Servers

NVIDIA has hinted at the possibility of introducing a standalone version of its Arm-based Grace CPU for the server segment if the right opportunity arises. Currently, the company offers Superchips that combine Grace CPU with Hopper GPU chips, providing a comprehensive solution for the AI and data center ecosystem.

This integrated design, featuring both CPU and GPU in a single package, aims to address various industry workloads. The Grace Superchips are available in GPU+CPU and CPU-only configurations within a 2-chip package.

    More About NVIDIA’s Arm-Based GPU

While this integrated approach offers versatility, some customers find themselves constrained, as they are essentially tied to using NVIDIA’s Hopper architecture or two CPUs, even when their requirements may only necessitate a single chip. Despite NVIDIA’s GPU roadmap indicating a continued focus on Superchip designs with upcoming architectures like GH200, GB200, and GX200, there are indications that a surprise announcement might be in store at the upcoming GTC. This announcement could involve NVIDIA bringing the Grace CPU or its successor into the standalone server segment.

During a Wells Fargo event, NVIDIA’s CFO, Colette Kress, was asked about the company’s plans regarding offering the Grace architecture as a standalone CPU for the server industry. While no official confirmation was provided, Kress expressed enthusiasm, suggesting that NVIDIA is considering the possibility. The Grace CPU boasts 144 cores (72 Arm Neoverse V2 per chip), supports up to 960 GB of LPDDR5X memory with a raw bandwidth of up to 1 TB/s, and has a combined power draw of 500W. Additional specifications include 117 MB of L3 cache and 58 Gen5 lanes, all implemented using the TSMC 4N process node.

Introducing standalone Grace CPUs could be a significant development for NVIDIA, especially considering the company’s extensive reach in AI markets. This move would also intensify competition with x86 solutions from companies such as Intel. Official benchmarks have already demonstrated that the Grace CPU offers competitive efficiency and performance compared to industry offerings.

Moreover, the company’s foray into standalone CPUs is not limited to servers, as the company is anticipated to enter the PC consumer market with Arm-based solutions by 2025.

  • NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD Fluid Motion Frame Tech Fusion Unleashes Up to 3x Gaming Performance Boost

NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD Fluid Motion Frame Tech Fusion Unleashes Up to 3x Gaming Performance Boost

Quasarzone managed to achieve an unconventional feat by successfully integrating both NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 Frame Generation and AMD‘s Fluid Motion Frame technologies, despite the two originally not being designed to work in tandem. This unique collaboration resulted in a remarkable up to 3x performance boost in games such as Cyberpunk 2077, showcasing the potential synergy between the two technologies.

    NVIDIA DLSS 3

All About the NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD Fluid Motion Frame Tech

Characterized as a “Crazy Idea,” the combination of NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 and AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames required intricate configuration but demonstrated a significant gaming performance enhancement, even though it may not be practical for the majority of gamers.

Delving into the technical aspects, NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 employs frame interpolation, doubling frames through AI-generated images that often surpass native image quality. It is integrated into games through NVIDIA’s DLSS SDK. On the other hand, AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames technology, compatible with DX11/DX12 games, operates at the driver level. While lacking in detail compared to DLSS 3, AMD’s technology is more versatile and accessible across a broader spectrum of games.

To implement this amalgamation, a system supporting both NVIDIA’s RTX 40 (DLSS 3 Frame Gen Support) and AMD’s RX 6000/7000 GPUs (AMD Fluid Motion Frame Support) is required. The display output should be through the AMD GPU, with the primary GPU set to the NVIDIA graphics card in the Windows OS, ensuring that the Radeon GPU drives the display while the GeForce GPU handles the game processing.

Activating AMD Fluid Motion Frame technology involves installing the latest Technical Preview or BETA driver and enabling AFMF technology through the Radeon Control Panel. It’s noteworthy that AFMF only operates in fullscreen mode, excluding other modes like borderless window or windowed mode.

Enabling DLSS 3 Frame generation is simpler, requiring a toggle within the game’s settings to have both NVIDIA and AMD technologies coexisting. However, despite the substantial performance gains observed in certain games, caution is advised. While titles like Cyberpunk 2077 exhibited a nearly 3x gain over native resolution, others, such as COD: MW III, experienced a dip in minimum FPS compared to standalone presets of AFMF and DLSS 3 Frame-Gen.

In conclusion, although experimenting with such configurations may be entertaining, the challenges of managing two graphics cards and ensuring stability, coupled with the likelihood of game crashes and stutters, make this unconventional combination impractical. It’s essential to note that such configurations are not officially supported by either company.

  • NVIDIA Ceases Mass Production of RTX 4070 Ti/4080 GPUs, Shifts Focus to Upcoming SUPER Variants

NVIDIA Ceases Mass Production of RTX 4070 Ti/4080 GPUs, Shifts Focus to Upcoming SUPER Variants

As reported by Board Channels, a platform that consolidates information from various sources related to NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel board partners, there has been recent news of NVIDIA discontinuing two GPUs. The company has initiated an inventory cutoff, marking the cessation of availability for these graphics cards starting this quarter. Allegedly, mass production of the GPUs in question, namely the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080, has been halted by NVIDIA.

All About NVIDIA Stopping RTX 4070 Ti/4080 Production

The last batch of these GPUs has been distributed, and board partners are now in the process of placing orders for their successors, rumored to be the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and RTX 4080 SUPER models. These upgraded versions are expected to launch in January, indicating a swift transition in NVIDIA’s product lineup.

However, it’s important to note that the term “discontinuation” may sometimes lead to misconceptions, as it can be interpreted in different ways. Discontinuation can either mean a complete halt in production with no plans for future manufacturing (a full product stop), or it might be a temporary measure as the company shifts its inventory focus to different models, often sharing the same PCB design or GPUs.

NVIDIA has a history of temporarily stopping mass production and resuming it later based on market demands. This flexibility was particularly evident during the COVID-19 period when NVIDIA adjusted its product portfolio on a monthly basis to meet evolving market needs.

In essence, this reported discontinuation might not signify the ultimate end of the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080. Instead, it could be indicative of NVIDIA’s strategic shift towards new models. If this information is accurate, it implies that the production of the RTX 4070 Ti/4080 will continue, albeit possibly at a reduced scale. It’s worth noting that the RTX 4070 Ti is not even produced as a Founders Edition, indicating that mass production, in this case, refers to a limited supply of GPUs for board partners’ card assembly.
