Virat Kohli’s Masterclass and Jadeja’s Brilliance: A Day of Resilience and Records in Port of Spain

As the sun rose on Day 2, West Indies opted for the second new ball, hoping to break the resilient partnership between Kohli and the sensational Ravindra Jadeja. But the duo proved to be an immovable force, displaying an incredible fifth-wicket stand worth 159 runs. Jadeja, in his characteristic style, punched and flicked with finesse, collecting runs at will, much to the dismay of the West Indies bowlers.

Kohli, on the other hand, seemed to transcend into a realm of his own, producing an array of delightful strokes. He elegantly drove the ball straight down the ground, showcasing his prowess with the bat. His composure was unmatched, and as he crossed the 90s, the anticipation for his century reached a fever pitch. The crowd was electrified with every run he scored, and when he finally brought up his 76th international hundred with a splendid square drive, the stadium erupted in a wave of exultation.

This monumental century was not just a personal milestone for Kohli; it came with several accolades that solidified his position among cricket’s elite. He surpassed the legendary Brian Lara’s tally of Test tons at No. 4, leaving behind a legacy that would be talked about for generations. Additionally, Kohli’s century was his 12th against the West Indies, equaling the mighty Jacques Kallis and closing in on the leader of this elite group, Sunil Gavaskar.

Jadeja, too, was in prime form, displaying his all-around brilliance and confidently reaching his well-deserved half-century. The duo’s partnership was a sight to behold, as they defied all the challenges thrown their way.

However, as is the nature of cricket, the game can change in a matter of seconds. A direct hit from Alzarri Joseph brought an end to Kohli’s sublime innings, leaving the Indian fans in awe of his brilliance and yet yearning for more. But the action didn’t stop there, as young Ishan Kishan stepped onto the crease with an attacking mindset, impressively taking on the West Indies bowlers, and announcing his arrival with a couple of boundaries.

Jadeja’s gallant innings came to an end, as he edged a delivery from the fiery Kemar Roach to the wicketkeeper, courtesy of a successful DRS appeal by West Indies. But the show went on, and Kishan continued to thrill the audience with his fearless approach.

With the match delicately poised at Lunch, the seventh-wicket pair of Kishan and R Ashwin stood undefeated, ready to add further fireworks to this enthralling encounter.

A thrilling Day 2 of the second Test in Port of Spain showcased the dominance of India as they posted a formidable total of 438 runs, led by a magnificent 159-run partnership between the dynamic duo of Virat Kohli (121) and Ravindra Jadeja (61). However, it was R Ashwin’s blazing knock of 56 that added the perfect finishing touch to India’s innings.

The afternoon session saw a spirited effort from West Indies, trying to tame India’s lower order and limit the damage. Ashwin, with his characteristic elegance, unleashed a flurry of boundaries, showcasing his prowess with an exquisite off drive and a fine guide past point, putting the West Indies bowlers on the back foot. The young Ishan Kishan, too, had his share of fortune as he managed to survive a close call, but fate had other plans for him as he fell to a brilliant catch by the wicketkeeper on the very next ball.

Amidst the intriguing battle, Ashwin’s brilliance shone through as he used his cricketing acumen to challenge a leg-before decision and successfully overturn it with the help of the Decision Review System (DRS). With composure and finesse, he maneuvered the spinner Jomel Warrican to collect crucial runs, steering India past the formidable 400-run mark.

However, West Indies fought back valiantly, dismissing the tailenders and halting the tail from wagging too long. Alzarri Joseph’s short-ball tactics were skillfully handled by Ashwin and Jaydev Unadkat, who displayed grit and resilience, forming a steady partnership. Despite a fiery delivery striking Unadkat on his arm, the duo stood tall, pushing India’s score forward.

As the excitement mounted, Warrican managed to deceive Unadkat, stumping him with a clever delivery after a missed slog sweep. Yet, Ashwin continued to dazzle the crowd with his crafty batting, guiding a Roach delivery over slip for his fifth boundary, inching closer to his fifty.

The match, however, witnessed a twist when Mohammed Siraj fell prey to Warrican’s cunning delivery, as West Indies successfully utilized the review this time. The game of cricket, as always, showed its unpredictability, keeping fans at the edge of their seats throughout the enthralling day.

With the day’s play drawing to a close, the scoreboard read 438, a testament to India’s batting prowess and a daunting challenge ahead for the West Indies.

Tata Group gears up to enter into Chip manufacturing and iPhone assembly business in India

The outlet at Tata Electronics that is anticipated to be the main chipset-making facility was shown to the board by Tata Sons last week. According to a report by The Economic Times (ET), the company’s whole board, including Ajay Piramal and Venu Srinivasan, were taken to Hosur and Bengaluru to assess the facilities.

The proposed agreement can become a reality as early as next month. It was previously reported that the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, after a successful commercial career lasting more than fifteen years, is getting ready to wind down its activities in India.

The Wistron Corp. factory in Karnataka, which is valued at $600 million, is the subject of ongoing negotiations, the article said. The factory builds the most recent iPhone 14 model and has over 10,000 employees.

In order to obtain state-backed financial incentives, Wistron agreed to export at least $1.8 billion worth of iPhones from the factory in the fiscal year 2023–2024. By the following year, it also intended to increase plant staff by threefold. Tata, the biggest conglomerate in India, is prepared to keep its promises.

It was revealed earlier this year that Wistron exported iPhones from India for close to $500 million in the three months ending June 30. Foxconn Technology Group and Pegatron Corp., two of Apple’s other major Taiwanese suppliers, have also increased production in India.

According to the research, Apple’s efforts to expand its product production beyond China and strengthen its technology manufacturing presence in India are anticipated to receive a big boost from the launch of an iPhone built in India.

Foxconn planning to set up multiple semiconductor fabs in India

Foxconn announced on Tuesday that it intends to establish four to five semiconductor production lines in India, according to the Economic Times, a day after announcing its decision to end its joint venture for the manufacture of chips with the Indian giant Vedanta.

According to the Economic Times, the tech giant has informed the ministry of electronics and information technology that it has inked two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with technological partners.

Foxconn should be able to submit the final application and issue a formal announcement within the next two months because it is familiar with the processes.

While one production line would be established in Gujarat, the corporation may also look into other places for the plants, according to the newspaper.

As the contract manufacturer reaffirmed its commitment to India on Tuesday, the company also said that it is putting the finishing touches on preparations to qualify for incentives under the semiconductor and display fab programmes.

    Foxconn
    Foxconn

The world’s largest manufacturer of electronics in Taiwan claimed that it has been searching hard for the best partners. The remark has relevance in light of Foxconn’s withdrawal from the USD 19.5 billion joint venture with Vedanta for semiconductors.

The IT giant is currently in discussions to set up the production facilities in India with a number of national and international partners. The company’s main priorities include finding new partners and utilising established chip manufacturing technologies for goods like electric vehicles.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the minister of state for electronics and IT, claimed that Foxconn’s withdrawal from the Vedanta joint venture had no bearing on India’s goal of building a semiconductor fabrication plant because neither company had any prior semiconductor experience or technology and was expected to source fabrication technology from a tech partner.

As they have done for the most part this tournament, the Blues dominated possession and were able to build up remarkably well. But, their performance in the final third was lacking as they were unable to conjure up enough solid chances to get on the end of. Moreover, their lack of clinical finishing has also proved to be a problem with only six of their 19 total shots on target.

Jio has developed a comprehensive 5G solution, encompassing the 5G radio, a complete 5G core network, cloud infrastructure setup, and platforms for cloud-based operations. However, for its 5G rollout, Jio is currently relying on partners like Nokia and Ericsson, and has not yet deployed its own solutions on a large scale.

While Jio possesses the necessary resources to supply its own designed solutions to other countries, it must first test and deploy these solutions in India and obtain certification before commencing exports. Rakesh Bhatnagar, Director General of VoICE consortium and head of the government-appointed task force on new telecom equipment opportunities, highlighted the potential for domestic telecom solution firms, including equipment makers, to benefit from the India-US telecom partnership.

Reliance Industries subsidiary, Reliance Strategic Business Ventures, previously formed a joint venture with US-based Sanmina Corporation to manufacture 4G and 5G equipment for both global and domestic markets. The joint venture received an investment of ₹1,670 crore from the Reliance arm.
