Garena Free Fire Unban Update: Is the game making a comeback?

After months of waiting, Indian Garena Free Fire fans and esports players can now look forward to the game’s return. Garena has inked two memorandums of understanding (MOUs) in the country, one with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the other with Yotta Data Services, a Hiranandani group company, to manage its Indian services.

This has sparked some speculations and conversations regarding the battle royale title returning to the country. Furthermore, a series of Instagram stories by Diptanshu Saini, co-founder of Chemin Esports, one of the most well-known organizations in this field, has added credibility to them.

Although there is no official explanation, recent developments and Instagram stories by Diptanshu Saini hint that a return of Garena Free Fire is possible.

In one of the most recent stories, he uploaded a photo of Chemin Esports’ FFPL trophy while stating that the wait is now over, implying that the game’s services will be restored shortly.

This suggests that Garena is working behind the scenes to get things back on track. Diptanshu Saini also informed Sportskeeda exclusively that the game would be re-released in India with the Garena Free Fire MAX.

Surprisingly, the original restriction only applied to the ordinary edition of the battle royale title, leaving the enhanced version unaffected. Despite not being on the prohibited application list, the Garena Free Fire MAX version is only available on the Google Play Store, as it was delisted from the App Store alongside the regular version in February 2022.

What makes this even more intriguing is that Garena confirmed spaces for the FFWS 2023, but only two of them were revealed. Given the recent renovations, there is widespread conjecture in the community that these could be to accommodate the Indian team following their return.

The problems began with login issues in early February 2022, and things quickly deteriorated when the game and its improved version were removed from the Apple App Store within hours. On the same day, the Google Play Store followed suit, however, it was only limited to the normal edition.

The ban of the game, along with 53 other applications, was announced on February 14, 2023. Fans and esports players were devastated. Furthermore, FFIC Spring 2022, as well as the other tournaments with a large prize pool scheduled for the year, were canceled. As a result, the reintroduction of Garena’s title, together with the recently relaunched Krafton’s IP BGMI, has the potential to propel esports to new heights.

Free Fire Update: Garena trying its best to bring back its Battle-Royale title

Whether it’s BGMI, Free Fire, Valorant, or any other influential game in the Indian gaming community, Skyesports founder and CEO Shiva Nandy never hesitates to express his thoughts on the country’s esports industry. Nandy has been vocal in recent months about BGMI’s unban in India and the competitive scene, while also spreading positive rumors.

This time, the Skyesports CEO has also said something positive that will likely cheer many of Free Fire’s Indian fans. While writing about the Indian esports industry, Shiva hinted at Garena’s efforts to bring Free Fire back to India.

Even though Shiva Nandy is a major player in the Indian gaming industry, his comments about the return of Free Fire and Battlegrounds Mobile India seemed speculative. As a result, fans should take them with a grain of salt until Garena or Krafton issues an official statement. Furthermore, Nandy’s story highlighted the rise of the Indian esports scene, in which Skyesports has also announced its CS: GO league with a prize pool of two crores INR.

For a long time, Free Fire and Battlegrounds Mobile India have been banned, with no news of their return.

Garena’s flagship Battle Royale title, along with a slew of other applications, was banned in February 2022 for data security reasons. At the same time, the Indian government’s MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) blocked Battlegrounds Mobile India for similar reasons.

After more than a year of being banned, Free Fire has been replaced by its MAX variant, which is still operational and receiving timely updates. However, Battlegrounds Mobile India is no longer receiving patch updates and is still stuck on version 2.1, which Krafton released in July 2022, before the ban.

Things got serious, yet exciting when Mythpat vowed to delete his channel if Total Gaming wins the battle.

While Mythpat’s primary focus is on creating engaging gaming content by playing Minecraft and GTA 5, Total Gaming a.k.a Ajjubhai, on the other hand, is a household name in the community with over 31M subscribers on YouTube. Mythpat challenges Total Gaming to reveal his face on losing a Free Fire battle, the former vows to delete his channel upon his defeat

Commenting about the challenge, Mythpat said: “I had just woken up from my sleep, and I got a weird and fun idea of challenging Total Gaming over a Free Fire match because he is extremely good at it. This is the only thing wherein I could challenge him to reveal his face if I win. I just posted it on Twitter as soon as I got this idea, didn’t even think twice. Surprisingly he accepted the challenge. Things got interesting when a few YouTubers asked what would I do if I lose. I tweeted; I would delete my channel… Yes, I was still half asleep maybe. I am now just excited to defeat Total Gaming. I have already started practising the game. Alongside, I am low-key nervous and scared, definitely.”

Accepting the challenge, Total Gaming said: “I was initially very shocked to see that tweet. I even thought for a moment that someone hacked Mythpat’s Twitter account and made that tweet. I frantically called him, and he was laughing uncontrollably. That is when I realised this was for real. He told me that he got this idea right after he woke up from sleep and tweeted right away. But, I am surely looking forward to this challenge. I have no plans of revealing my face for a few more years, so winning is the only choice I have.”
