Intel’s Tiger Lake CPUs are coming as a reply to AMD’s Ryzen 4000U mobile chips this year and the first laptop bearing this Intel chip gets officially announced. Acer has announced the latest addition to its Swift 5 series with upcoming Intel CPUs named as the SF514-55 series.

Acer Swift 5 SF514-55 with 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake CPUs will be launching this fall for $999.99

The new Swift 5 SF514-55 will feature a 14-inch FHD display with very narrow bezels and a high screen-to-body ratio of up to 90% (an upgrade from previous 86.4% on older models). The display will have a peak brightness of 300 nits and will come with a touchscreen option covering about 72% of the NTSC colour gamut, also featuring an Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass.

Acer has upgraded the upcoming Swift 5 from 10th Gen Ice Lake-U processors to the 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake-U series processors. It features Intel’s new Xe graphics architecture that gives enhanced graphics performance whose glimpse we saw in our previous leak.

However, Acer will still provide you with optional discrete Nvidia GeForce MX350 GPU as well. This comes paired with up 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. The laptop will be still very thin and sleek, also have a weight under 1Kg.

There remains no change when it comes to ports, the new Swift 5 SF514-55 will have HDMI port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a USB Type-C Thunderbolt port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Acer has packed 56 Wh battery into the new Swift 5 and there will be dual-band Wi-Fi 6 connectivity support as well. For security, there’s the Windows Hello support along with a dedicated fingerprint reader.

If the guesses are correct, this laptop was the one that was listed by Dutch retailer a few days ago with Core i5-1135G7 and Core i7-1165G7 CPU options. The new Acer Swift 5 SF514-55 will make its way in China, EMEA and North America from October onwards with a starting price of CNY 6,999, €1,099 and US$999.99 respectively. In the images we see, probably we will see two colour variants of the laptop.

  • Intel Tiger Lake Core i7-1165G7 CPU equals Ryzen 7 4700U performance while Xe iGPU destroys AMD Vega iGPU

Intel Tiger Lake Core i7-1165G7 CPU equals Ryzen 7 4700U performance while Xe iGPU destroys AMD Vega iGPU

Intel Tiger Lake CPUs are coming soon and we already got evidence with the listing of the Acer Swift 5 with these CPUs and the Core i7-1165G7 will be the successor to the Ice Lake Core i7-1065G7. Although still, you will get quad-core CPUs this time to your surprise, these processors even take on AMD’s Zen 2 based octa-core APUs as well.

However, the main surprise lies for you in the graphics department, as Intel has silently developed a much stronger graphical weapon this time with the likes of Gen12 Xe iGPU. Thanks again to the prolific leakers @TUM_APIAK & @_rogame for their leaks that compare the new Core i7-1165G7 CPU with the current best AMD Ryzen 7 4700U.

The upcoming Tiger Lake CPU manages to score 5,304 points in CPU test while the Ryzen 7 4700U also scores 5,302 points. The Intel CPU has utilized a 28 W TDP being paired with fast LPDDR4x 4266 MHz RAM, which means this time Intel will also ramp up the RAM speed support and the AMD APU was tested with a default TDP of 25 W.

Also, AMD’s two best Ryzen 4000 APUs were also compared in this battle where the Ryzen 7 4700U at 15 W TDP with 8 core and 16 threads scored a whopping 7,115 points, thanks to a large number of threads. On the other hand, the Ryzen 9 4900HS with the same number of cores and threads scored a handsome 7,511 points.

    Graphics Score1,482 points1,093 points1,237 points1,282 points
The battle of high-end mobile processors

If we keep the CPU performance, the main reason why AMD APUs got less 3DMark score is due to the fact that for the first time Intel has thrashed AMD on the iGPU department. Thanks, to the strong Intel Xe iGPU that scored 1,482 points, no AMD APU could actually match the Intel score, while the Core i7-1165G7 CPU thrashes the Ryzen 7 4700U by a huge 35.6% in the Time Spy Graphics Score.

These new Intel CPUs will bring a revolution to the integrated graphics market which was still in AMD’s favour, so gaming on laptop won’t be trouble this time even on a thin and ultra-portable notebook. But, the factor that will decide the market will be the price which obviously doesn’t generally turn into Intel’s favour but still such huge improvement on the graphics department is a good sign to the future.

  • Upcoming Acer Swift 5 laptop with Tiger Lake Core i5-1135G7 & Core i7-1165G7 listed by Dutch retailer, starts at $1000

Upcoming Acer Swift 5 laptop with Tiger Lake Core i5-1135G7 & Core i7-1165G7 listed by Dutch retailer, starts at $1000

Dutch retailer Centralpoint listed two Tiger Lake laptops, the Acer Swift 5 SF514-55T-77BX and SF514-55T-548J available and with an expected stock arrival date of July 27. This makes things clear that Intel is soon planning to launch its upcoming 10 nm based 11th gen Tiger Lake mobile CPUs with new Intel Xe iGPU.

Two models with Core i5-1135G7 and Core i7-1165G7 CPUs which again seems to be quad-core and eight threaded. The more exciting part about the Tiger Lake architecture is that it is the combination of Willow Cove CPU cores and Gen12 Xe integrated graphics. However, it will interesting to how these quad-core CPUs perform against AMD’s strong Zen 2 based APUs with up to 8 cores.

    via Centralpoint

The Acer Swift 5 seems to feature a 14-inch FHD resolution touch panel along with the presence of Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and Bluetooth 5 connectivity, as well as a fingerprint reader and Windows 10 Pro pre-installed.

The Core i5-1135G7 model (SF514-55T-548J) sports 16GB of memory and along with 512GB SSD, and could retail for $1,045, while the Core i7-1165G7 variant (SF514-55T-77BX) with 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD may carry a price tag in the range of $1,275.

    via Centralpoint

Nevertheless, the prototype Tiger Lake Graphics processor performance places this model is on par with low-end NVIDIA distinct graphics like GeForce MX350. However, a more powerful Ryzen 7 4800H and GTX 1660 Ti-powered laptops like the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 can be had for less.

The major difference or key USP of the AMD APUs is its cheap pricing because a Ryzen 5 4500U or a Ryzen 7 4700U will have far less pricing than these costly Intel Tiger Lake counter parts. So, when it comes to price-to-performance ratio, AMD can still hurt Intel, however the blue team seems to be making a huge leap in integrated graphics this time which AMD should be wary of.

Nonetheless, considering that it is a low-profile Tiger Lake equipped 14-inch ultra-thin notebook, the upcoming Acer Swift 5 should provide a fantastic balance of gaming and productivity-oriented performance. In the weeks and months to come, we must see more Tiger Lake equipped parts and get a better idea of how Xe iGPUs perform in real-world conditions.

  • Asus will be refreshing VivoBook 14 with Ryzen 5 4500U, Ryzen 7 4700U and Core i7-1165G7 processors

Asus will be refreshing VivoBook 14 with Ryzen 5 4500U, Ryzen 7 4700U and Core i7-1165G7 processors

The Tainwanese giant is known for its mid-range VivoBook 14 series which gives decent specs at reasonable price point. So it seems Asus will be updating its VivoBook 14 series with the latest processors.

Pointed by the tipster @_rogame, the Asus VivoBook 14 is said to be offering the new AMD Ryzen 5 4500U and Ryzen 7 4700U APUs. Also, these laptops will be featuring 8GB or 16GB LPDDR4 RAM running at 3200Mhz, along with 256GB or 512GB SSD storage from Western Digital and Samsung, respectively.

The RX Vega integrated graphics is quite powerful, not wasting on any dedicated GPU seems wise by Asus. So, the new VivoBook 14 series powered by the Ryzen 4000 mobile processors should both be efficient and powerful, coming at much lower costs than Intel.

While @_rogame claims that Asus has also manufactured a Tiger Lake-U model too namely the Core i7-1165G7 which interestingly will pair with NVIDIA GeForce MX350 graphics. This will make the device costly and it seems strange for Asus to opt for a dedicated GPU as Intel promises that the Gen12 graphics will be powerful from last-gen.

  • Intel Core i7-1185G7 Tiger Lake CPU spotted on 3DMark, 3.0 GHz at 28W?

Intel Core i7-1185G7 Tiger Lake CPU spotted on 3DMark, 3.0 GHz at 28W?

The Blue team is facing a stiff competition from AMD in the mobile processor lineup as well this time and their Tiger Lake-U series is the only one thing that Intel can fight back with. The new 10nm architecture will be succeeding Ice Lake CPUs along with a new CPU core architecture and a new Xe graphics engine.

Being limited to quad-core only, Ice Lake wasn’t that overwhelming but it was an efficient set of CPUs and there’s no doubt we have some high expectations for the Tiger Lake architecture. Already there are some 3DMark Time Spy listing for a processor called the Core i7-1185G7 which could be the new Tiger Lake CPU.

Intel Core i7-1185G7 Tiger Lake CPU spotted on 3DMark, 3.0 GHz at 28W?

The Intel Core i7-1185G7 reports to have a 3.0 GHz base clock, 700 MHz higher than that of last year’s flagship Core i7-1068G7. But at a TDP of 28 W the boost clock reported is very likely to be incorrect.

Now, the TDP is a confusing issue for us because multiple enthusiasts thinks that the Core i7-1185G7 is a 28 W TDP processor, making it comparable to the Core i7-1068G7. However, if we consider Intel’s naming scheme for the Ice Lake architecture, a CPU with the capability of reaching 28 W must have an 8 in before the GPU suffix. So, if a 28 W Tiger Lake-U chip exists, it should be called the Core i7-1188G7, not the i7-1185G7.

On the other hand, the tipster @TUM_APISAK reports the Core i7-1185G7 to have a CPU score of 2,922 and a graphics score of 1,296, whereas the Ryzen 7 4800U has scored 1,227 points in the same graphics test, giving the Core i7-1185G7 a 5-6% lead. But the CPU score is very underwhelming against the new AMD APUs.

This leak raises a lot of questions regarding the new Tiger Lake-U CPUs about their TDP, clock speeds, whether still there will be 4 cores? While the 3 GHz base clock seems good enough but the graphics is underwhelming so the Core i7-1185G7 is still mysterious as of now but in the coming days more details will be leaked of this new Tiger Lake-U series.

  • 10 nm Intel Tiger Lake-U CPU spotted in a Microsoft Surface Laptop

10 nm Intel Tiger Lake-U CPU spotted in a Microsoft Surface Laptop

Intel’s next laptop series CPUs will be the 10nm based Tiger Lake-U series which will directly compete against AMD’s Ryzen 4000 mobile APUs. Already it’s leaks are flooding all over the internet and now spotted to run on a Surface Laptop.

Microsoft has been fond of lastest hardware on their laptops and their last Surface laptop series featured the latest 10th gen CPUs. So Microsoft might launch new Surface laptops later this year when Tiger Lake-U series launches with select Project Athena laptops.

The Tiger Lake CPUs should bring significant upgrades including Gen 12 Xe iGPUs with 12-bit HEVC hardware decoding, PCIe 4.0 support, Thunderbolt 4 and LPDDR5 RAM. Some early tests in the 3DMark database have been spotted by twitter user _rogame which suggests that the performance is on par with AMD’s Renoir APUs.

The user _rogame spotted a 2.7 GHz Tiger Lake-U CPU scoring 8,412 points in Physics test while scoring 5,540 points in the graphics test. But _rogname is also confident that the database report which actually shows default and boosts clocks close to 1.2 GHz is wrong.

10 nm Intel Tiger Lake-U CPU spotted in a Microsoft Surface Laptop

This Tiger Lake-U CPU is expected to have a default clock set to 2.7 GHz and the boost clock at 4.3 GHz. Since these are early leaks so with further tweaks and better cooling you might expect better performance from these CPUs, making them competitive to AMD’s Ryzen 7 4700U and 4800U processors.

Intel’s new iGPU may end up being 10 to 20% faster than that of the Ryzen 7 4800U, even though being slower based on the test scores.

The laptop used for the 3DMark test also integrates with SSD which is found only on Surface laptops. Earlier tests also showed that there will be AMD powered Surface laptops which raises the possibility that Microsoft will probably be looking to diversify its offerings this year.
