Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in IPL history with a stunning 35-ball century – the fastest by an Indian and the second-fastest ever in the tournament’s illustrious history. His explosive knock helped Rajasthan Royals shock Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Suryavanshi finished with an impressive 101 runs off 38 balls, blasting 11 sixes and 7 fours, and posting an astonishing strike rate of 265.79. He reached his fifty in just 17 balls – the quickest this season – and required only 18 more balls to complete his century. His remarkable innings, coupled with a record-breaking opening partnership of 166 runs in just 11.5 overs, guided the Royals to chase down Gujarat’s target of 209 with 25 balls to spare, keeping their hopes alive in the competition.

The match was largely decided by the explosive start provided by the Royals’ opening duo: Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Their approach was a stark contrast to the more traditional start from Gujarat’s Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. While Rajasthan Royals had struggled with middle overs in previous matches, the two left-handers made sure they maintained a rapid scoring rate of 12.45, losing just two wickets in the process, and sealing a dominant victory for RR.

Gill and Sudharsan Lay a Solid Foundation for Gujarat Titans

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan once again provided Gujarat Titans with a composed start. Sudharsan got things underway with a couple of early boundaries and received a slice of luck when Shimron Hetmyer dropped a straightforward catch at cover with the batter on just nine.

Gill soon found his rhythm, dispatching two boundaries to the leg-side off Yudhvir Singh Charak, before unfurling a sublime straight drive against Jofra Archer — a move that nullified the Royals’ attempt to switch Archer’s bowling end. Sudharsan continued the momentum by driving Maheesh Theekshana through mid-on, and the duo comfortably brought up yet another 50-run opening partnership.

Gill and Buttler Power Titans’ Surge Despite Royals’ Efforts

With Rajasthan Royals desperate for a breakthrough, Riyan Parag introduced himself into the attack but was immediately slog-swept over the ropes by Shubman Gill. Vaibhav Suryavanshi then put down a tough chance to dismiss Gill, adding to the Royals’ woes. Yudhvir Singh Charak missed his line, allowing Gill to tuck away runs on the pads, while Sai Sudharsan ended the over with a powerful pull into the stands. Gill soon reached his half-century off just 29 balls, putting Gujarat Titans firmly in control.

Shubman Gill

However, against the flow of play, Maheesh Theekshana struck to end the opening stand, with Sudharsan’s lofted shot landing safely in the hands of the long-on fielder. The Sri Lankan spinners applied further pressure, conceding only 20 runs across four tight overs. But Titans broke free once again, targeting Charak, who struggled to contain the runs. Gill punished him with two sixes over deep square-leg — one off a fuller ball and another from a short-pitched delivery.

Jos Buttler, who had walked in after Sudharsan’s dismissal, initially struggled to find rhythm, crawling to 7 off 9 balls. But he exploded into life against Wanindu Hasaranga, first slog-sweeping him for six, then charging down the track to hammer another big shot down the ground. Hasaranga lost his lengths, allowing Buttler to add a four and another six off consecutive deliveries, taking 24 runs from the 15th over and reigniting the Titans’ momentum.

Buttler Marks Jaipur Return with a Blazing Half-Century

Jos Buttler kept the momentum going, deftly paddling a delivery over third man for four. In the 17th over, Maheesh Theekshana struggled with his control, bowling three wides, but capitalized on one extra delivery by dismissing Shubman Gill for 84 — the Titans’ skipper failing to clear Riyan Parag at long-off.

Jos Buttler

Buttler then took charge, welcoming fellow Englishman Jofra Archer with a six down the ground, followed by a boundary over third man off a slower ball. Between Buttler’s boundaries, Washington Sundar launched a hoick over fine-leg for six, with the over yielding 19 runs.

A brief pause in Buttler’s onslaught followed as he stayed off strike for 10 eventful deliveries, during which Sundar was dismissed thanks to a brilliant catch by Shimron Hetmyer. Rahul Tewatia pushed Gujarat Titans past the 200-run mark — the first team to do so in Jaipur since 2024. Buttler fittingly brought up his fifty off the final delivery of the innings, as Gujarat closed at a commanding 209 for 4.

Suryavanshi and Jaiswal Unleash Mayhem to Dominate PowerPlay

Pure carnage — the only way to sum up this phase of Rajasthan Royals’ innings. Mirroring their explosive start against LSG in their previous home game, Vaibhav Suryavanshi got off the mark with a towering six down the ground, this time off just his second ball. Jos Buttler, donning the gloves, then missed a high catch from Yashasvi Jaiswal when the southpaw was on just two — the sole chance offered by the Royals’ openers during this stretch.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Jaiswal immediately made Gujarat Titans pay, launching a six onto the roof off Ishant Sharma in the same over. From there, the Royals’ opening pair shifted into overdrive. Jaiswal smashed three boundaries off Mohammed Siraj, keeping the asking rate well within reach. But it was the fourth over that completely flipped the game.

Suryavanshi unleashed an onslaught, hammering 28 runs off Ishant Sharma to bring up Rajasthan’s 50 in just 3.5 overs. The young opener continued to exploit the favourable matchup against Washington Sundar, smashing two sixes and a four as Sundar’s over leaked 21 runs. Suryavanshi raced to his maiden IPL fifty in just 17 deliveries — the fastest of the season so far. Prasidh Krishna then finally managed to slow the momentum, conceding only six runs in the final over of the PowerPlay.

Suryavanshi Scripts History with Record-Breaking Century

The middle overs had often been Rajasthan Royals’ downfall in their previous three chases, but this time they stayed firmly on course. Yashasvi Jaiswal struck back-to-back boundaries off Prasidh Krishna before Vaibhav Suryavanshi launched a slower, fuller delivery into the stands, helping the Royals race to 100 inside just eight overs.

While Rashid Khan managed to apply some pressure from one end by conceding only nine runs across his first two overs, debutant Karim Janat faced a brutal baptism. Suryavanshi unleashed a savage assault on Janat, plundering 30 runs in a single over with a series of clean hits. The teenage sensation quickly moved to 94 off 34 balls and then made history by smashing Rashid Khan over deep midwicket to reach his century in just 35 balls — becoming both the youngest centurion in T20 history and the fastest Indian to score an IPL hundred.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jaiswal, who provided steady support, brought up his own half-century with a crisp slash through backward point. However, Suryavanshi’s dream innings finally ended when Prasidh Krishna nailed a yorker to rattle his stumps. Nitish Rana tried to keep the momentum going with a boundary but was trapped LBW after just two balls. With two left-handers at the crease, Gujarat Titans belatedly introduced Sai Kishore in the 15th over, but Royals captain Riyan Parag took him apart as well, taking 16 runs off his over to keep the chase well within grasp.

Royals Cruise to Dominant Victory

Needing just 11 runs from the final five overs, Yashasvi Jaiswal eased the pressure with a boundary off Washington Sundar before Riyan Parag slog-swept the offspinner to seal the deal.

Rajasthan Royals wrapped up a comprehensive eight-wicket win, underlining their dominance in a commanding chase.
