What if Suriya’s next big Diwali release had starred someone else entirely? According to its director, that was nearly the case.

### The Big Reveal

Jithu Madhavan, the director of *Aavesham*, told Galatta Plus that *Scene* began as a Malayalam idea with **Fahadh Faasil** and his wife **Nazriya Nazim** as the lead pair. That would have marked their reunion on screen. He discussed the story with Fahadh, who liked it, and early talks were underway. Then Jithu decided he was really writing the story for Suriya. He narrated it to the actor, who liked it too, and the project moved in a new direction.

### Why Naslen?

Jithu says he wanted a fresh face for the antagonist. The character has to look innocent even while doing disturbing things, and that led him to the *Premalu* star Naslen. It’s a casting choice that promises some unsettling charm.

### Why the Lyric Videos Look Animated

There’s another smart detail here. The film’s lyrical videos rely mostly on animation so they don’t spoil key plot points. Jithu says only about 30% of the film’s visuals could be shown without giving away big surprises. That suggests plenty of twists are being saved for the theatre.

### What’s the Story?

*Scene* follows a former officer who must track down an old identity. With no team to help, he builds his own from a group of unconventional people. Working with them proves tricky, especially because a rival team is far more organised. The film promises investigation, banter between the members and plenty of humour along the way. ### Why It’s a Diwali Contender?

A Suriya film with a Malayalam-rooted director behind *Aavesham* is already an interesting mix. Add a comic investigation plot and a menacing yet charming villain, and *Scene* looks set to be a strong festive pick. It’s also one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of Diwali 2026.
