The Tamil film industry is buzzing with a revelation that nobody saw coming. Director RJ Balaji has confirmed that **Karuppu**, the fantasy action blockbuster now dominating theatres with Suriya in the lead, was originally scripted as **Thalapathy Vijay’s swan song** from cinema. Yes, you read that right.

## The Inside Story: How Vijay’s “Last Film” Became Suriya’s Triumph

In a candid conversation with *The Hollywood Reporter India*, RJ Balaji opened up about how this massive project first landed on Vijay’s desk. The two had multiple sittings where the script was being shaped as a fitting grand finale for one of Tamil cinema’s biggest icons.

Balaji shared that Vijay’s questions after the narration were so sharp and meaningful that they actually **improved the script significantly**. Even though Vijay ultimately passed on the project for personal reasons, the director held no grudges — he said he respected Vijay’s decision completely.

When producers later suggested taking the same script to Suriya, things clicked instantly. Suriya loved the concept and signed on, bringing his own magnetic screen presence to the role of Karuppusamy — a guardian deity who takes human form.
