Matthew Lillard in a James Gunn DC movie sounds like a fever dream—and that’s exactly why it could work. Reports link the *Scream* and *Scooby-Doo* favourite to a mystery DC Comics role in *Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow*, with chatter circling Mister Mxyzptlk. Official confirmation? Still the missing puzzle piece.

| Quick Read | What It Means |
| --- | --- |
| Project | *Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow* |
| Actor | Matthew Lillard |
| Rumoured role | Mister Mxyzptlk / mystery DC character |
| Why it clicks | Lillard’s chaotic charm suits a cosmic trickster |
| Status | Reported buzz—not full official confirmation |
| Fan move | Enjoy the idea; wait for Gunn’s word |

The genius of casting Lillard isn’t stunt value. It’s energy. Gunn’s DCU already has earnest heroes and sharp humour; a fifth-dimensional mischief-maker would test Superman’s patience in a way punching cannot. [Mister Mxyzptlk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mister_Mxyzptlk) is less a brawler and more a walking headache—perfect for an actor who can be funny, unnerving and oddly charming in one scene.

But here’s the honest fan read: reports are not release dates. A character can be rumoured, tested or hidden behind marketing misdirection. If Lillard is Mxyzptlk, the story must make the trickster matter—not just serve as a CGI cameo. If he’s someone else, the buzz still proves Gunn is willing to cast against expectation.

What should you watch? Official trailers, DC Studios announcements and verified cast confirmations. Avoid spoiler-heavy threads that turn “maybe” into “definitely.” The smartest hype is curiosity with a seatbelt.
