Last night, Sunil Chhetri has achieved two great feats the first being to have crossed Barcelona’s greatest player ever Lionel Messi and Ali Mabkhout to become the 2nd highest goal scorer in International Football by scoring a brace against the Bengal tigers Bangladesh in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers held in Qatar.
While his second achievement last night was that after scoring his brace, he has become the first Indian ever to have scored goals in three different decades.
Sunil Chhetri’s first ever international goal came against Cambodia in August 17 2007 where had scored a brace against the opponent.
While his first goal in 2010-20 decade came on October 2010 against Vietnam where he had scored an impressive hattrick against them.
From August 17 2007 till now Sunil Chhetri has scored 74 goals and has provided 13 assists.
His brace against Bangladesh came after a long time, 641 days to be precise.
Currently the Indian striker’s national team is standing third in the World Cup Qualifier Second Round Group E with 6 points. Having won 1 match, drawing 3 matches and losing 2 matches.
The Indian forward’s contract with the ISL side Bengaluru FC has expired on 31 May 2021. And is currently a free agent.
