Sundar Pichai thinks Google Assistant has the AI “technology to actually do those things now,” which will make the Google assistant as “your own personal Google”. The New York Times spoke with the CEO of Google about Bard and the current state of AI in general.

Sundar Pichai was questioned about how Google could set Bard apart from other upcoming AI products given that it has the advantage of managing and being aware of other facets of your digital life, such as with Gmail.

Sundar Pichai acknowledged the limitations of Bard’s current capabilities but pointed out that Google has more powerful models, such as its Pathways Language Model (PaLM), which will give Bard access to more features. Pichai also talked about the need for caution and worries about how quickly AI is developing.

Sundar Pichai claims that Bard uses a “lightweight and efficient version of LaMDA,” an AI language model that specialises in dialogue delivery.

According to Pichai, PaLM is a more recent language model, has a larger scope, and is better able to handle tasks like common sense reasoning and coding issues. He added that Bard will soon be upgraded to the PaLM models, which will enhance its capacity for logic and coding and allow it to respond to maths questions more effectively.

The Google CEO also talked about the need for caution and worries about the quick development of AI. He acknowledged that the development of AI carries some risks and that many people are worried about the potential risks. Sundar Pichai said he is both excited and concerned about the potential of AI technology, and that the fact that so many people share their worries gives him hope that the industry will address the dangers of AI.

Pichai acknowledged that the “dangerous race dynamic” that is currently at play between businesses like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google has caused concerns due to the rapid pace of AI development.
