**Dawn of the Dead (2004)** Hard to believe this was Zack Snyder’s first feature film. He took George Romero’s iconic [zombie horror](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie_film) concept and cranked up the speed, the chaos, and the carnage. A group of survivors holes up in a shopping mall as the undead close in — and unlike Romero’s shuffling hordes, Snyder’s zombies sprint. Relentless, terrifying, and still one of the best remakes ever made.

**Whiplash (2014)** If you haven’t seen *Whiplash*, stop reading and go watch it right now. Miles Teller plays a young drummer chasing greatness at an elite music conservatory, pushed to his absolute limits by J.K. Simmons’ ferociously demanding conductor. It won three Oscars — Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Supporting Actor for Simmons — and earned a Best Picture nomination. Every single minute is electric.

**Jaws (1, 2 & 3)** The franchise that made an entire generation afraid of the ocean. Steven Spielberg’s 1975 original is a masterpiece of suspense filmmaking — and it’s been cycling in and out of Netflix since 2016. Come May 1, all three available instalments disappear again. Watch the original at minimum. It still holds up completely.

**Fury (2014)** Brad Pitt commands a five-man tank crew deep behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany during the final days of WWII. Director David Ayer leans hard into the grit and moral ambiguity of war. Alongside Pitt, you’ve got Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, and Shia LaBeouf delivering strong performances. A war film that doesn’t flinch.

**Conan the Destroyer (1984)** Not Schwarzenegger’s most critically celebrated outing, but *Conan the Destroyer* has genuine cult appeal — and right now it’s more relevant than ever. Earlier this year, Schwarzenegger confirmed that *King Conan*, a long-awaited threequel, is in active development. Go back and revisit this before the franchise gets its big comeback moment.

**Annie (2014)** Produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z, directed by Will Gluck, and starring Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, and the brilliant Quvenzhané Wallis, this contemporary reimagining of the classic Broadway musical is more fun than it gets credit for. The setting is updated — Daddy Warbucks becomes a tech mogul — and the songs are reworked with fresh energy. It’s a crowd-pleaser that got unfairly buried on release.

**How to Train Your Dragon (1 & 2)** DreamWorks Animation’s finest hour. The story of a young Viking who befriends a dragon is warm, funny, and genuinely moving. Both the original 2010 film and its 2014 sequel are leaving together. The franchise just got a live-action Netflix adaptation, making now the perfect time to revisit where it all began. **Dune (1984)** Before Denis Villeneuve turned *Dune* into a billion-dollar film saga, David Lynch adapted Frank Herbert’s novel in 1984 — and the result is genuinely strange, fascinating, and very much a product of its era. Kyle MacLachlan stars as Paul Atreides. With *Dune: Part III* arriving later this year, this is the ideal moment to see where the cinematic lineage actually starts.
