[*Stranger Things*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stranger_Things) delivered an emotional finale that wrapped up the beloved series, but fans are left with lingering mysteries. The [Duffer Brothers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duffer_Brothers) crafted an ambiguous ending that sparked countless theories about what really happened in Hawkins’ final battle against the Upside Down.

## Stranger Things Season 5: Top Unanswered Mysteries

| Mystery | Details |
| --- | --- |
| **Eleven’s Fate** | Did she survive the wormhole collapse or perish in Iceland? |
| **Hopper’s Montauk Job** | Reference to conspiracy theories that inspired the show |
| **Dr. Kay’s Backstory** | Her motivations and rumored connection to Dr. Brenner |
| **Will’s Connection** | Why didn’t he feel the Mindflayer’s death? |
| **Max’s Letters** | What did she write to each character? |

## The Biggest Question: Where is Eleven?

The series ends with Mike narrating a hopeful story about [Eleven’s survival](https://technosports.co.in/stranger-things-season-5), suggesting Kali helped her escape the collapsing portal to Iceland. However, the Duffer Brothers confirmed this ambiguity was intentional—Eleven symbolizes “the magic of childhood,” and her departure marks the end of that innocent phase.

According to creator interviews, there was never a version where Eleven stayed in Hawkins. Her presence would endanger everyone, making her disappearance both tragic and necessary. Mike’s belief becomes the characters’ emotional closure, even without proof.

## Montauk Mystery & Potential Spinoffs

Hopper’s mention of a job opportunity in [Montauk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montauk_Project) before proposing to Joyce isn’t accidental. The Montauk Project conspiracy theory—involving time travel and psychological warfare experiments—served as *Stranger Things’* original working title. Could this hint at future spinoff content?

## Other Lingering Plot Holes

**Military Consequences**: Despite the party killing numerous soldiers, there’s no follow-up about legal ramifications in the epilogue.

**Relationship Status**: Dustin and Suzie’s relationship is completely ignored despite the actress attending the LA premiere, while Robin and Vicki’s status remains unclear.

**Vecna’s Requirements**: Why did Vecna specifically need 12 children? The significance of this number was never explained.

**Will’s Cryptic Comments**: References to loving Melvald’s milkshakes (a store that doesn’t sell them) and enjoying woods walks (where he was kidnapped) remain unexplained.
