Stephanie Frappart continues to make history, changing the norms in football. She recently became the first female referee to officiate a match at the FIFA World Cup when she was in charge for Germany’s group stage game against Costa Rica.

And now, she is set to become the first female referee to take charge of a game at the famous Wembley Stadium. She will be the on-pitch referee for England’s friendly game against Australia on October 14 ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy on October 18.

Frappart has been serving as a referee since the age of 13. She was recognised by FIFA in 2009, and made her way into officiating men’s football when she took charge of matches in France’s third division from 2011.

Alongside assistant referees Mikael Berchebru and Aurélien Drouet and fourth official Hakim Ben El Hadj, with VAR Mathieu Vernice and Assistant VAR Nicolas Rainville, the officiating team will be all-French when the Ashes receives its football counterpart.

Stephanie Frappart has also officiated in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup, and was the first ever woman to do so. Her exceptional achievements have paved the way for more women to be recognised and rewarded for their competency – and be given high profile matches to officiate.
