Next year, Star Wars Outlaws will take players on an open-world adventure through the criminal underbelly of the legendary galaxy far, far away. Ubisoft announced a partnership with Lucasfilm Games to publish an open-world Star Wars game in 2021.

Massive Entertainment, the in-house company behind The Division 2 and The Crew 2 is working on this sandbox space adventure, in which players will purportedly pilot a mix of iconic Star Wars and brand-new crafts across various worlds.

In the two years after its official announcement, there hasn’t been much official word on Ubisoft’s open-world game, but there have been plenty of rumors and reports about when more information would be published.

Julian Gerighty, the creative director of Massive Entertainment, hinted at the team’s Star Wars OutLaws project in a cryptic tweet that he sent out to start the new year.

Meanwhile, an unconfirmed source said that the studio planned to release Project Helix sometime in early 2024. Project Helix has now been announced for the next year and has been given an official name as well as some further narrative information.

Massive Entertainment debuted a CGI teaser trailer for Star Wars Outlaws, an open-world Star Wars game that will be set at some point during the first movie trilogy, right at the start of the Xbox Games Showcase.

The first few seconds of this trailer show an unknown female protagonist acting as Sabacc and telling how the galaxy ‘belongs to the Syndicates’. Her game is interrupted by the arrival of two bounty hunters, who force her and her feline-like extra-terrestrial partner to leave.

A bar brawl quickly breaks out to conceal her departure, and she soon jumps aboard a speeder bike outside, narrating how she will no longer be held back. This desire for liberty brings her to her ship, where a stranger named Jalen offers to assist her with an unclear assignment.

Following more photos of the unidentified heroine slipping into Syndicate strongholds, fending off foes on her swoop cycle, and fleeing the Empire in her ship, the game’s official title of Star Wars Outlaws is revealed, along with a hazy release date of 2024.
