Yes, you read that right. One of the most anticipated Indian films of 2027 has been brought to a standstill — not by creative differences or budget overruns, but by a water shortage. Here’s the full story behind the buzz.

### What Happened on the *Varanasi* Set?

The production team of *Varanasi*, the magnum opus directed by [SS Rajamouli](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S._S._Rajamouli) — the visionary behind *Baahubali* and *RRR* — requested 150 water tankers (each with a 10,000-litre capacity) to film an ambitious underwater sequence at a specially constructed set on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Authorities denied the request, citing rising water demand and strain on the existing supply system, effectively bringing the shoot to a halt. This was reported despite the production team offering to cover all costs for water supply and transportation.

### Why This Is a Big Deal

Rajamouli is known for pushing boundaries — think the jaw-dropping action sequences in *RRR* or the underwater and war-epic scenes in *Baahubali*. So when his team requests 150 tankers for a single underwater scene, you know this is going to be spectacular. The delay is a reminder of how real-world logistics can challenge even the grandest cinematic visions.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas marks her big return to Indian cinema with this project, while Mahesh Babu tackles the challenge of a dual role as both a mortal hero and Lord Rama himself. ### What’s Next for the Cast?

Priyanka Chopra is currently finishing post-production on her American comedy *Judgment Day* (co-starring Will Ferrell and Zac Efron). Prithviraj Sukumaran has *Khalifa* lined up for Onam 2026. Mahesh Babu, meanwhile, is fully focused on *Varanasi*. For more on [upcoming South Indian blockbusters and release updates, TechnoSports has you covered](https://technosports.co.in).
