Squid Game of Season 2 is a South Korean TV series that has officially got confirmed by Netflix. As per Variety, Ted Sarandos is the co-chief executive officer and chief content officer of the streaming service has also confirmed the same during Netflix’s fourth quarter.
Ted Sarandos has replied “Absolutely. The ‘Squid Game’ universe has just begun” when he was asked whether it is in the pipeline or not?
His comment may also imply that a whole new small-screen universe that can be based solely on that show also be in the works.
The Squid Game is written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk. The Squid game is a survival drama series that featured content similar to Battle Royale where a debt-ridden people couple competes in games to win a grand prize of 45.6 billion won ($38.6 million or more than Rs 2 billion). The games which were being played in the contest were childhood games in South Korea.
The game’s catch was that those who would be eliminated in every round will not just go home empty-handed rather they will be killed. As per the mysterious creator of the game, this game seemed fairer than the daily game the participants play in the real world. In this game, wealth was guaranteed if one were clever and ruthless enough- which was not true outside the game.
The show was illustrated as a strong, acute, and incisive critique of modern capitalistic societies and that economic mobility was just a myth conserved by the moneyed classes.
The South Korean series named Squid Game has become a phenomenon. Squid Game is the most-watched series on Netflix with an incredible 1.65 billion viewing hours after four weeks of its launch, beating Bridgerton’s 625.5 million hours by a huge margin.
Squid Game Season 2 -Cast
The Squid Game stars Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, HoYeon Jung, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung.
O Yeong-su, the casting member of the Squid Game earlier this month has won the Golden Globe award for the Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film category earlier this month.
There also lies a huge surprise, it is expected by the fans that Jin, a member of the BTS group will be going to feature in the series.
There has been speculation that he may appear in the hit show’s second series.
The first series winner named Gi-hun has a possibility to return after Sang-Woo has decided to end his life in the battle arena.
Release Date
Squid Game season 2 is expected to release it in the latter half of 2022.
