Spurs interest in Militao confirmed; Ajax expressed interest in Davison Sanchez

One of the more surprising unsuccessful transfer rumours thrown around during January transfer window was that of Eder Militao being on the radar of Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking on the rumour on the Here We Go podcast on Patreon, Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio essentially confirmed that the London club was actually interested in the centre-back. Daniel Levy and co. proposed a loan deal for the player with an option to buy.

The key point is that Spurs were willing to reserve their right to choose whether or not they would have made Militao’s move permanent or not. This is different from an obligation to buy, where the club will have to pay up for the player regardless of how they perform.

However, Real Madrid did not have many fit centre-back options at the time which made it essential for Los Merengues to keep the Brazilian at the club.

Spurs, on the other hand, were looking to offload Davidson Sanchez during the mid-season transfer window. Sanchez’s former club, Ajax, was reportedly interested in him, but the defender stayed in London.

While Militao’s fate for the rest of the season has effectively been sealed, a move during the summer transfer window could be beckoning given that he isn’t getting enough game time in the Spanish capital right now.
