Spider-Man 4: Tom Holland’s Next Adventure Set for 2026 Release with Director Destin Daniel Cretton

Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi who entered talks in September to take on Spider-Man 4, has now sealed a deal with Sony and Marvel. Tom Holland will return as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for a movie that opens–in 2026. And opening nearly five years today after Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered on screens around the world.

It’s not called Spider-Man 4 yet, but it will be released in theatres on July 24th, 2026. That is more than two months after Avengers: Doomsday, which opens on May 1st of the same year.  While Marvel and Sony have not confirmed Holland for either, it seems that the actor is likely set to return to both. This pattern follows the release of Holland’s second Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, which came shortly after Avengers: Endgame in 2019, highlighting the interconnected nature of the MCU.

As for who’ll be back from the cast of Spider-Man 4, Tom Holland is the only one we know for sure. An interesting tidbit about the film was shared by Holland himself recently as he said that he and his co-star Zendaya, who plays MJ in the movie read through the script together. Even though her character had her memory of Peter Parker wiped into No Way Home, it sounds as if Zendaya be back for this next chapter.

“I read [the Spider-Man 4 script] three weeks ago, and it really ignited my enthusiasm,” Holland stated. “Zendaya and I sat down to read it together, and we were sometimes bouncing around the living room, saying, ‘This is a movie that truly deserves the fans’ respect.’ However, there are a few elements we need to figure out before we can proceed with full momentum.” Additionally, Holland confirmed on The Tonight Show that filming for Spider-Man 4 is expected to commence in England in mid-2025, exciting fans about the future of this beloved superhero.
