Spain have won their fourth European Championship after defeating England 2-1 in a thrilling final in Berlin. Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winning goal for La Roja, making it seven wins out of seven games as they won the trophy with a 100% record.
England, on the other hand, have now finished as runners-up in two straight editions of the Euros. Last time, it was Italy who defeated the Three Lions in front of their home crowd at Wembley Stadium on penalties. This time, it’s Spain, winning in 90 minutes.

Luis de la Fuente’s men achieved the breakthrough in the game through Nico Williams, with the Athletic Club winger finding the back of the net from the left wing. Lamine Yamal attempted to play Dani Olmo in, who was making the run through the middle, but the ball rolled to Williams, who produced a calm finish to give his side the lead.
Cole Palmer stepped up to score as a super sub after assisting Ollie Watkins in the semifinal. The Chelsea winger produced a trademark finish, shooting the ball from distance with his left foot to equalise.
However, England could not deal with Oyarzabal’s inch-perfect run late in the game, and have now ended up on the losing side again after an intense physical battle.
Gareth Southgate’s future is now up in the air after a heartbreaking loss in Germany. And the England manager will make a decision after a few weeks, when the pain of the defeat has subsided.
