Spain began their 2022 World Cup campaign in dominant fashion, with a 7-0 win against Costa Rica. The game saw Ferran Torres score a brace, with one from the penalty spot, while the likes of Alvaro Morata, Marco Asensio, Gavi, Dani Olmo and Carlos Soler got onto the scoresheet.

This is only the third time that La Roja have scored five or more goals, and it shows that they are one of the favourites to progress deep into the competition.

By scoring in the 74th minute, Gavi became the youngest goalscorer in a World Cup since Pele in the famous 1958 final. He has also surpassed Raul as the youngest goalscorer for Spain in the World Cup.

The Barcelona academy graduate was named the Golden Boy for 2022. And his performances are now showing why he deserves the award.

Spain were extremely dominant throughout the game, and did not relent despite taking a three goal advantage into the second half. As a result, they achieved their biggest ever win at the grandest stage of them all.

Group E now shapes up with Spain at the top followed by Japan, Germany and Costa Rica at the bottom.
