Spain and Switzerland drew 1-1 in their opening Nations League game, sharing a point each as a result. Goals from Alvaro Morata and Ricardo Horta on either team kept the scores level until the final minute.
The game was largely dominated by Spain, who were cheered on by their home crowd in Seville. They had over 60% of the ball, but could only land two shots on target during the game. As a result, they had to settle for a point against the visitors.
Barcelona midfielder Gavi was given the nod in the starting line-up, and dominated the match throughout. His distribution in the middle of the park was very efficient, and helped the team gain control of the game.
Spain draw 1-1 against Portugal in the Nations League
Cristiano Ronaldo started the game on the bench, with Andre Silva of RB Leipzig leading the line. He had a great chance to equalise right after Alvaro Morata put Spain ahead in the 25th minute. But, the striker pulled his effort wide.
The equalising goal eventually came through, courtesy of Sporting Braga’s Ricardo Horta. The substitute got on the end of a cross from Joao Cancelo totally unmarked, and comfortably volleyed it over Unai Simon.
Following Czech Republic’s win over Switzerland in their first match, Spain and Portugal are both in second and third. Spain will face the league leaders in their next game, while Portugal take on Switzerland who are at the bottom of the table.
