Southampton have agreed on a deal with Serie A club Torino for their centre-back, Lyanco. The two clubs have agreed on a €7 million transfer for the player, and he will be the replacement for Jannik Vestergaard who left the Saints for Leicester City a few weeks ago.
The defender came through the Botafogo academy in Brazil before moving to Sao Paulo. He was recruited by Torino in 2017 for €7 million, and after spending a year on loan with Bologna, he became a part of their first team. The Italian club is now set to sell him for the same amount they signed him for four years ago.
Celta Vigo and Real Betis from La Liga made a couple of proposals to Torino for the player, but he is interested in the opportunity to play in the Premier League much more. Personal terms have been fully agreed upon between the player and Southampton, and he will sign a contract of four years until June 2025.
A medical assessment will be arranged soon, followed by the official announcement of the signing by the Saints.
In total, the Brazilian has made 53 appearances for Torino and has also featured in the defensive midfield position on a couple of occasions. Lyanco represented Serbia at the U19 level before switching to Brazil, for whom he now features at the U23 level. Southampton continue a decent summer market performance, having recruited the likes of Armando Broja, Tino Livramento and now Lyanco.
