Sony is currently known for, among other things, producing some of the best noise-cancelling headphones. The current flagship model, the WH-1000XM4, is the greatest wireless headset available. Sony, on the other hand, maybe preparing for the Sony WH-1000XM5, and based on the rumour, we now have a full look at the future flagship headset as well as some details on what might change.
TechnikNews has posted some high-resolution press renders of the Sony WH-1000XM5, which show off the headphone’s new design in all its glory. While the WH-1000XM4 looked similar to its predecessor, the new one has some noticeable differences; the design is also much cleaner and minimalist this time around.

The earpads of the Sony WH-1000XM5 appear to be larger, and the headband appears to be thicker. As a result, the updated model should be more comfortable to use. A slide has replaced the on-off switch, and the “Custom” button has been renamed “NC/Ambient.” According to the leak, the headphones would be available in two colours: black and silver.
In terms of features, the Sony WH-1000XM5 will have a battery life of up to 40 hours with ANC, which is 10 hours longer than the predecessors. However, the charging time has doubled this time, taking 3.5 hours to fully charge the headphones.
We should also expect enhanced ANC performance, as the new headphones are said to include two specialised noise cancelling CPUs and three microphones. The headphones also include Bluetooth 5.2, a 3.5mm jack, and a USB Type-C charging port.
