If you’re frustrated that your PlayStation 4 or 5 isn’t accepting the one-year extension you just purchased, take a deep breath and relax. For the time being, Sony has placed pre-order subscriptions on hold. People have been abusing a loophole to get significant savings on PlayStation Plus (PS+) Premium far into the future, prompting the temporary stoppage.
When Sony announced its PS+ reorganisation last month, many users wondered what would happen to their existing subscription time. The existing plans would be migrated to the new tiers, according to Sony’s FAQ. Those who only have PlayStation Plus will be upgraded to the $60 PlayStation Plus Essential level. Those who already have PS+ and PS Now, both of which cost $60 per year, will be automatically upgraded to the new PS+ Premium plan, which costs $120 per year.
When Sony chose how to fairly reposition subscriptions of different length, it created a loophole
If a player has an unequal length PS+ and PS Now membership, they will receive Premium for the longer subscription period. So a consumer who has one year of PS Now left and two years of PS+ will get two years of Premium.
As a result, customers began purchasing $60 subscriptions to one or the other almost immediately in order to prolong the $120 subscription as far as their wallets would allow. Because Sony discovered that people were abusing the loophole, it has suspended voucher claims until the new subscriptions are available.
For the time being, the voucher entry screen will only accept claims from subscribers who have had their memberships expire. Others will have to wait for PlayStation Plus to reopen. On May 23, it will be released in several Asian territories, Japan on June 1, North and South America on June 13, and Europe on June 23.
It’s crucial to remember that if you have vouchers now, their value will alter based on whatever subscription level you choose or currently have following the shift. A one-month PS+ or PS Now code, for example, will provide you one month of Essential or half a month (17 days) of Premium.
