Sony is extending PlayStation Plus memberships by five days for all users in light of a PSN outage that left many PlayStation users stranded for nearly 18 hours over the weekend. The company confirmed on Sunday that services had been fully restored and apologized for the disruption.

The outage that started late Friday and stretched into Saturday had stopped users from signing in, playing online games, or accessing content in digital stores. On Saturday night, Sony said that PSN was restored, but it did not explain the reason for the disruption.

Sony Offers 5-Day PlayStation Plus Extension After PSN Outage Disrupts Services Worldwide

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Japanese gaming giant stated, “Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience.” The outage impacted users across key regions, including the United States and the United Kingdom. DownDetector, which tracks outages, said nearly 8,000 users in the U.S. and more than 7,300 in the U.K. reported connectivity issues while the problem peaked on Saturday afternoon.

PlayStation Network, PSN for short, is an integral part of Sony’s gaming infrastructure and reaches millions of PlayStation users across the globe. The offer to extend memberships shows the company’s desire to restore customer confidence following the abrupt service disruption. Sony’s dealt with PSN-related issues in the past. The network has gone offline for days during the holiday season after a cyberattack in 2014, annoying gamers.

A further breach in 2011 exposed the personal data of 77 million users and led to a month-long suspension of services and scrutiny from regulatory companies. Sony is working to keep its gaming community at the heart of its concerns even amid technical issues, as demonstrated by its recent service resumption and compensation plan. Any PlayStation Plus subscribers should find their extended memberships applied automatically in the next few days.
