Son Heung-min finished the 21/22 Premier League season with 23 goals to his name, and will be sharing the Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah. Following his double against Norwich City, he could’ve had the award to himself.
But, Salah scored in Liverpool’s 3-1 win against Wolves to finish with 23 goals himself. As a result, the Korean and the Egyptian are the joint-top scorers this season since the Premier League doesn’t use assists to determine the solitary winner.
Son Heung-min’s impressive Golden Boot victory stat
While Mohamed Salah has scored five Premier League goals from the penalty spot this season, Son has scored none. All of his goals this season have been from open play, which just goes to show how many more he could’ve had if he was on penalty duties for Tottenham.
Son Heung-min is the first Asian to win the Golden Boot, and also helped secure Tottenham’s return to the Champions League with the win against Norwich. Here is what he had to say following his personal achievement: “I can’t believe I scored so many goals it makes me really happy but the golden boot is something everyone dreams of when you are a kid and when you start playing football. But for me it’s more important to help the team”
The Korean was also voted Spurs’ player of the season, despite missing out on a PFA Player of the Year nomination rather surprisingly.
