Most of the fans of LA, as well as the Chargers, rejoiced when Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium was awarded hosting games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, recent reports are stating that there is a high chance that SoFi stadium cloud will lose the rights. The luxurious 70,240-seat stadium opened in 2020, and no one even questioned that the stadium was chosen over the other venues across the country. Also, Mexico and Canada are among the countries with hosting rights too.
Why SoFi Stadium could lose its spot?
Reports state that SoFi Stadium is too narrow to host a World Cup game. In fact, the field in the SoFi Stadium would allegedly have to be widened up to 63 feet to satisfy regulations of the FIFA. Along with that, the findings of the reports are surprising as they state that the SoFi stadium hosted the Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 15th of, 2022.
Besides, the stadium will also host the world cup final, which is reported to take place at Metlife East Rutherford, New Jersey. It is to be seen what happens in the near future. Either FIFA will bend its regulations this once, or the World Cup committee is likely to take any action.
When will the upcoming world cup start?
Fans have been very hyped for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026. It will kick off on Thu, 11 Jun 2026, and will go on till Sun, 19 Jul 2026. As mentioned, hosting rights are in the hands of three countries, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and the world’s biggest tournament combines all these three countries will indeed be an absolute banger. Though problems have taken place regarding hosting games at the SoFi stadium, these are going to be resolved soon.
