Some anime seasons produce one standout that everyone ends up talking about months later. For Spring 2026, that title was “Snowball Earth” — and now it’s finally making its way to a much wider audience.

Netflix has officially secured streaming rights to the post-apocalyptic mecha series, with the 13-episode first season set to drop on October 4, 2026, in the US, Canada, and select other regions.

### What Is Snowball Earth About?

Based on the acclaimed manga by Yuhiro Tsujitsugu, the story follows Tetsuo, a shy young man whose only true friend is a giant robot named Yukio. Together, they once defended humanity against invading galactic monsters. After surviving a brutal battle and spending eight years in cold sleep, Tetsuo wakes up to find Earth entirely frozen — a bleak, icebound world now known as Snowball Earth. Carrying the promise he made to Yukio, he sets out to navigate this strange new reality.

The series blends survival drama, kaiju-scale battles, and mecha action into a tightly plotted first season, directed by Munehisa Sakai with series composition by Shigeru Murakoshi. It’s part of a stacked October lineup for Netflix’s anime slate, which also includes “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” Season 2 — making this a genuinely busy month for anime fans on the platform.
