Tech watchers are waiting to see if Samsung will use Qualcomm’s pricier Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 rather than its own Exynos for the recent Galaxy S25 series that it hopes can render processing power similar to or better than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Just recently the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 popped up in Geekbench giving some massive multi-core number of 8840, Qualcomm’s fastest SoC dethroned Apple A series. Now, just before the official announcement detailing it and its specs arrive fully.
More About the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 was first spotted on Geekbench in early August with a single-core score of 2884 and a multi-score core of an impressive figure of 8840. However, there is something we know beyond these benchmark scores. This leak data sheet shares a detailed view of Snapdragon 636 and what new it will come with the next flagship processor from Qualcomm.
There are two versions of the SoC, as per SmartPrix — a regular SM8750 and an “S” model named SM8750P. The latter is a more premium iteration of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and this chip will be used to power conventional flagship devices from brands like Vivo, Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, OnePlus, and Asus.
On the other hand, this new high-performance model will be limited to Samsung‘s Galaxy S25 Ultra class of the most powerful smartphones with a possibility for further future flagship adoption.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen is the Snapdragon 888 successor, and leaked specs tell us it will be built on TSMC’s latest process which is claimed to make it a monster when it comes to efficiency with densely packed transistors that deliver ultimate performance. It will feature Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores, first seen in the Snapdragon X Elite and Plus laptops.
The chipset will be housing two high-performance cores at 4.0 GHz and offers six efficiency cores clocked in 2.8 GHz. It will also feature the Adreno 830 GPU, FastConnect 7900 modem with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, and Qualcomm’s new advanced Spectra ISP for improved camera functions in addition to a number of major performance upgrades over its predecessor. The processor will also introduce new AI capabilities via Qualcomm’s Sensing Hub (QSH), which fuels the Low Power Artificial Intelligence (LPAI) subsystem.
These leaked specs illustrate that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is all about refinement and efficiency when compared to its older sibling. The SoC is expected to make its official appearance in October at the Summit 2024, and rumors are that we might finally see it on a smartphone with Xiaomi 15 being one of those.
