Snapdragon 8 Elite Achieves 60FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 on Low

The lack of native AAA games on Android is disappointing, especially considering the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s capability to deliver a high-quality experience on compact devices. The hardware has no doubt, now it is a question of encouraging developers to work hard. It’s one thing to run a demanding title like Cyberpunk 2077 at lower settings, but the new video shows the Snapdragon 8 Elite can maintain a steady 60FPS even in busy gameplay moments.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Pushes 60FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 on ‘Low’ Settings; No Ray Tracing Enabled in New Gameplay Clip

The video shows Cyberpunk 2077 running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite at 60FPS and was posted by @cozy_OSS. The framerate counter is shown, and there are no drops even in combat scenes that usually create difficulty for hardware. Also, the Snapdragon 8 Elite had previously proven itself in materials testing by beating the AMD Radeon 780M in the ASUS ROG Ally in 3DMark Steel Nomad Light, so it was already safe to assume that a potentially excellent performance would accompany Cyberpunk 2077.

In order to achieve the 60FPS goal, visual settings had been adjusted to low and resolution was set at 1,280 x 720. This is a low resolution by some standards, but you probably have a smaller screen, so as long as the pixels are packed pretty close together we probably won’t see such visible degradation.

Cyberpunk 2077 was able to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite through GameFusion, an emulation software. That same software also powered the Snapdragon 8 Elite to artificially over double the framerate of its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, running A Plague Tale: Innocence.

On closer inspection, the absence of ray tracing underlines that Cyberpunk 2077 on the Snapdragon 8 Elite does not use this technology, which demands an RTX 4000 series GPU at the heart of a proper desktop gaming machine. It’s important to note that the Snapdragon 8 Elite does support hardware-accelerated ray tracing, though enabling it halved the performance. However, a few years ago, AAA games on smartphones felt like an impossible feat and that means developers, the team behind CD Projekt RED included, need to get their titles over to the Snapdragon 8 Elite platform.

FAQs
