With the festive season fast approaching, a lot of car makers are updating their lineups to boost sales during one of the peak buying times. Well, Skoda is getting on board with its newly teased line of sports-focused cars aptly called the Skoda Sports range.
The Sporty Skoda Kushaq and Slavia
Skoda India is currently home to two hot-selling models in its lineup – the Kushaq SUV and the Slavia sedan. They are based on the Volkswagen MQB A0 IN platform as well. The model lineup is characterized by its excellent crash safety and high performance, with the oldest versions now set to receive a sporty new update. The Kushaq and Slavia can be seen finished in a bold red paint, signaling the sporty new design of Skoda’s Sports range.
Rumours indicate that the Sports range will also benefit from more aggressive exterior design touches, like black highlights to give a sportier look for both Kushaq and Slavia. While inside, the new models could get an all-black cabin with red highlights. Other improvements can be limited to new front and rear bumpers with a sportier look, an illuminated emblem on the grille, or additional design changes.
But, this teaser does not hint at any big changes or facelifts on the Kushaq and Slavia though. It’s more likely that Skoda will introduce new features and possibly some mechanical upgrades to better compete with rivals from Korean brands.
Historically, Skoda and Volkswagen have been known for their performance in the compact SUV and sedan segments. Given the alternatives from rivals are more powerful and quicker, Skoda is likely to tune its 1.5-liter EVO engine for better performance with potential new hardware changes including rear disc brakes for improved braking while a sportier exhaust could be thrown in to improve driving engagement on itself. As of now, the 1.5L turbo petrol engine produces 148 bhp and a torque of 250 Nm mated to a smooth accelerating seven-speed DSG gearbox. We should know more details about the Skoda Sports range in due course.
