Simeone Inzaghi is set to join Inter Milan as the club manager, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The Lazio boss is set to leave his post and replace Antonio Conte, who left the club in the last few days.
The main reason behind Conte’s departure was that Inter would have to sell some of their star players to raise about €100 million. The absence of fans from the stadiums has had a huge financial impact on the club, and Conte needed the board to spend in the summer.
There is a chance that either Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, Achraf Hakimi and Milan Skriniar could leave the club this summer due to the aforementioned position of the club. Inter won their 19th Scudetto this past season, and only in their second term under Antonio Conte. There is a big chance that they could fall short of the mark this time around, given that they will have to part with some of their assets.
Despite the rumours, Maurizio Sarri, Paulo Fonseca, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Sergio Conceicao were not in talks with the Zhang family over the Inter job. Max Allegri was possibly in contact, and now that Inzaghi has been selected, the debate for the bench leader is over.
Inzaghi had a fruitful spell at Lazio and employed a formation and style of play similar to that of Conte. With Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez currently at the club, they will maintain their strike partnership since Inzaghi employs a double striker formation like his predecessor.
