Shreyas Iyer was in the playing XI against Australia in Test Series, but his dream of batting for India was not fulfilled due to his lower back injury during the 167 overs of fielding for such a long time.
Shreyas Iyer’s reoccurring lower back injury “isn’t looking good at the moment”, said the Indian team captain Rohit Sharma. Iyer may also miss the IPL 2023 with Kolkata Knight Riders in addition to three ODI series matches.
Shreyas Iyer will not be able to play cricket due to a lower back injury and even miss IPL 2023
According to PTI, Shreyas Iyer will not be playing three-match ODI test series matches against Australia. And according to the latest updates his playing in the IPL 2023 for Kolkata Knight Riders also looks in danger and a call would be taken after talking to a specialist.
“Poor guy… It just was such an unfortunate incident. He had to wait all day to bat and then when the day got over, the issue he had with his back, recurred. He was sent to the hospital to take scans,” said Rohit Sharma when he was asked about the player’s fitness.
“I don’t know the exact report of the scans, but he does not seem to be doing that well. Obviously, that’s why he’s not present here,” said the India team’s captain.
“So we don’t know the exact status of how long he will take to recover or when he will be back. When it happened, it did not look that great. I hope he recovers quickly and comes back and plays again,” Rohit Sharma added.
Indian fast bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah both of whom are now out of action due to back surgeries. So, a question is now asked how was Shreyas Iyer given the go-ahead to play directly a test match, instead of playing in the Irani Cup in Gwalior?
In the case of Shreyas Iyer, the previous policy of checking an unfit player coming back after rehab at the NCA, in domestic cricket was not followed by the team management which was headed by Rahul Dravid.
Rahul Dravid had created the policy in consultation with the erstwhile national selection committee headed by MSK Prasad, that no player who is doing rehab at NCA would come back to the international fold without playing at least one domestic match. But why was Shreyas Iyer an exception, remains a mystery!
