Sevilla are set to sack Jorge Sampaoli in the coming hours, after a dismal run of form for the first team. The former Marseille boss has only been in charge since October, after taking over from Julen Lopetegui. However, he will now be relieved of his duties.
The Basque side have already found a replacement for Sampaoli. They are in contact with José Luis Mendilibar to take over until the end of the season. An official statement confirming his arrival, and announcing Sampaoli’s departure can be expected very soon.
Sevilla to sack Jorge Sampaoli imminently
Sampaoli was able to lead the team into the quarter finals of the Europa League. After finishing third in their Champions League group, which consisted of Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.
They won their playoff match against PSV Eindhoven and also won their Round of 16 clash against Fenerbahce. Sevilla are expected to face Manchester United in the quarter finals, but will go into the match with a new manager on the bench.
Their league form has been quite disastrous, as they currently sit only two points away from the relegation zone. Jorge Sampaoli’s insistence to stick to a back three was the main reason why he lost the confidence of the dressing room.
The 2-0 defeat to Getafe this weekend proved to be the last straw for Sampaoli, who lost three of his last four league games with the club.
