So, according to the ever-reliable Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s upcoming WWDC keynote will cover three major topics, making it one of the company’s longest events to date. Gurman shared in a tweet that the focus of the keynote will be on the introduction of several new Mac models, Apple’s highly anticipated mixed-reality headset, and a range of significant updates to Apple’s operating systems.
Are a lot of new Macs coming? What we know so far
While rumors have strongly suggested the unveiling of a new 15-inch MacBook Air model at the event, details about other potential Mac models remain unclear. Gurman told previously that the newer Mac Studio, 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, and 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro may become eligible for trade-in on the day of the event, hinting at a possible refresh for at least one of these machines.
The Mac Studio, which debuted in May 2022 with M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips, is yet to receive an update despite the release of newer Macs featuring M2, M2 Pro, and M2 Max chips. Although Gurman is uncertain about the launch timing, he believes that two new Mac Studio models are in development.
Gurman has expressed skepticism about the possibility of an update being announced at WWDC, suggesting that Apple might wait for the M3 generation to refresh the Mac Studio and avoid cannibalizing the Apple silicon Mac Pro. Nevertheless, it is still possible that updated Mac Studio models with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chip options could make an appearance at this year’s WWDC.
Considering the significant amount of content expected to be presented, Gurman anticipates that the keynote will easily surpass two hours in duration, making it one of Apple’s longest events ever. Last year’s WWDC keynote ran for just under one hour and 50 minutes, during which Apple unveiled iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura, and watchOS 9. Also, in terms of products they launched the M2 chip, a new 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the redesigned MacBook Air.
